Re: Swingarm Bushing Replacement

I've had pretty good luck using a pneumatic hammer to punch them out. I started them by bending a edge over and then using the edge to push the bushing out. They came out pretty easy that way. For installing new, like Ed said, I used a large hardened bolt and heavy washers to pull it into place (kin...

Re: Engine Number and difference between 100B and B+

The engine internals were the same, the cases did change somewhere around that time. As noted above, there was more material around the base gasket area (which was necessary for the cases to be used with slight modifications for the 125 bottom ends). The other modifications to the cases were also pr...

Re: Trials bike kick stand

Rick, The stand looks good, but I would be afraid of it catching on something and opening (as the way it's mounted it opens backwards - letting your forward motion open it). At the least it could cause you points in a section, or could cause a serous fall. It might be hard to get to the mounting scr...

Re: Webco heads

They are not real rare, as they do show up on ebay from time to time. I see two or three a year show up. Some sellers seem to think they are cast out of gold, judging from some of the asking prices. I have seen them in the $100 range, but I don't know what condition they were in.

Re: Webco heads

The early Webco heads for the iron barrel 100 Hodaka's looked much like the original heads, except the fins, etc. were thicker and the combustion chamber was different. The later heads (still for the cast iron 100's) were much bigger than a stock head (even the super rat head) and had angled fins. T...

Re: 125 wombat flywheel

I would second Clarence's suggestions. Along the same lines, you might tighten with the appropriate Hodaka puller and leave it for a few hours. Then make sure it is still tight and give it a rap with a hammer. If nothing, tighten and let sit for a few more hours, continue as above until it comes loo...

Re: Main Nozzle

What do you mean by Main Nozzle? Are you referring to the brass projection that is the top of the needle jet and sticks up through the bottom of the venture? If so, it is a press fit (goes in from the top, through the slide opening) and is additionally held in by the main jet screwing into it on the...

Re: Oil to pinion bushing

The open side of the grooves does go toward the crank bearing (away from the clutch) and the thrust washer it fits up to should also have oil grooves machined into it. They face toward the bushing.

VMX Magazine ?

Has anyone else received the newest issue of VMX Magazine (issue 58)? I have a subscription and I see that the new issue is out, but I haven't received it yet. Just trying to verify it did go out so I can contact the local post office (again) as they seem to lose a lot of mail.

Thanks

Usually, if you look closely, you can see faint marks where the inside rest against the main shaft and bearing and the outside will show marks where the washer rested against it.

Re: 250 SL kickstart stripped

What you are describing is a worn out roller holder (and possible a worn kicker shaft). The roller holder (part #30), holds the rollers in place; and when you kick start the bike, the rollers are forced up ramps (or cams) on the kick shaft, pushing them outward, where they are forced against the ins...

The kit is : Kick Crank Assembly Set- Part# 714700AKIT Just go to the Strictly Hodaka site, under category go to engine parts > kickers and parts and it is listed there.

Re: 250 SL kickstart stripped

In most cases, yes, you will have to split the cases. What exactly are you referring to when you say the kick starter has stripped? Is it making a grinding noise inside the engine and slipping on the gears (which is actually the rollers slipping) or is the kick starter lever stripped on the shaft (o...

Re: Filing oversized rings?

We used to do this all the time of race engines to get the best ring seal. Get the next size larger and file to perfect end gap size. Just make sure if there is an indent on the back side of the ring, you also make sure that it has the original clearance for the ring locater pin in the piston (you d...

Re: jets, Need an Answer please

In checking some of the Mikuni sites, it appears that the longer jets are different on the inside from the shorter jets. The longer ones are made for certain jet needles (as at throttle closed to just open) the needle sticks down into the opening on the threaded end of the main jet. It even list the...

Re: Swingarm bolt torque

On that model I usually give it around 40-50 lb.ft. It is a nylock nut so it shouldn't come loose. Also, you want it tight enough to take up any play in the swingarm bushings without crushing them. As noted above, I have never found an "Official" spec. I use the above amount (40-50 lb.ft.)...

Re: Exhaust pipe question

On my 1973 model 94 Wombat, the pipe has a large nut on the front, where it screws onto threads on the iron cylinder. Not sure about the later Wombats, but the early one was a screw on style, like the Ace 100's
