I sure agree with Ed here on the chain guard I have seen engines ruined by chains coming off and I think any chain guard is better than none . Clarence

Not good information, but I remember an old bell helmet ad that said if you have a ten dollar head buy a ten dollar helmet. Safety is very important. Sure is neat seeing comments, ideas and suggestions. Clarence

Re: Leading axle forks
There were leading link front forks made for hodaka in the 60's and 70's I have three./ One set is on my old ace 90 that I used for cross country and motocross up until 1973?? They handle a bump really well and if you use the front brake the bike raises up. On mine you needed good shocks also. My 90...

Re: Head Gasket sealant
If we didn't have a new head gasket we baked an old one in the oven for a while. Also we could spray Al paint on the head gasket. I always hand lap my heads on glass with wet or dry. I oscillate the head back and forth in a quarter circle rotating the head now and then. I use an inch pound torque wr...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker
I feel it is easier to count ratchet notches than shift notches. The five speed has one ratchet notch that is also a shift notch . The four speed has three ratchet notches and four shift notches The five speed has four ratchet notches and five shift notches however the fifth gear notch is also a rat...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker
The foot change ratchet is different. the four speed has three ratchet notches and the five speed has four. As I remember the ace 100 ratchet cannot be installed in the ace 90 shift cover. Clarence

Re: Hodaka flat tracker
Terry the circlip holding on the sprocket worked well. As I recall there was a wide and close ration 5 speed for the ace 90. The 90 shift cover had special parts to function. You could put on a newer shift cover on but it would change the shift pattern. I am still riding mine . Clarence back from th...

Re: No rings Ace 100
I have had engines that were overtightened and the engine did not turn over you, would be fine with a firm hand tighten. You need a little sideplay in your shafts. I always make sure I have everything freed up then I apply sealer ect. You can also check the crank or the shafts one at a time. Clarence

Re: FINDING NUETRAL
kinda sorta. There are times when a hodaka can't be pulled backwards in neutral running or not running. The kick start is hanging up just enough so when you pull back on the bike it pushes the kick start kicker forward into the clutch cover. I have seen this several times. It has never seemed to aff...

Re: No rings Ace 100
Use no silicone, your piston looks new. usually when when a ring breaks and the engine eats it, the piston is really torn up. Make sure no metal pieces are in the lower end. I think new rings would be a go piston tight and all. Clarence

Re: Ace 100 gears in an Ace 90 case?
The five speed race gears for the ace 90 worked great just a little machining had to be done on one case. I am still riding mine. And I think I have the literature for installation. There was a close and wide ratio set and there was a c clip to hold on the sprocket not a nut. Clarence

The coil and bracket was made for the ace 90 it was to replace the internal coil also considered a race item at the time it has a bolt on bracket. I just don't use either on a small engine. A shot of gas from a oil can or I will do or a half teaspoon of gas down the plug hole. For neutral I would re...

Re: Sneaky Ace 90
Oil or melted rubber? If oil lean out mixture and tighten clamp. Make sure exhaust nut is tight and sealed. A air leak can melt the rubber. In about 1969 my ace 90 connection rubber to the exhaust pipe melted dripping burning rubber==++== forest fire tanker planes and everything not good!. Clarence
