Re: "O Sweetness"

That's a beauty. By the way, Kruger, I used a timesert to fix the loose spark plug hole in the cylinder. Worked out well. Cheers

Kruger, I'm going to try and save it. Stopping by the machine shop tomorrow and have them check it out. Will let you know the results. Thanks,

Re: Super Rat 93 Cylinder Head Repairable??

The main difference I see right off in the photo Victor shared is the size of the cylinder bolt holes. Those on the 93 are only about 1/4". Thanks to H Jack I learned a new word today = Torodial = shaped like a doughnut. Even spell correct doesn't recognize it as a word.

Re: Super Rat 93 Cylinder Head Repairable??

Vic, did you click on the pics? They blow up real good for me. You can definitely see a triangle shaped hole and faint crack lines leading away from it. I believe DR is right. A heli-coil gone bad. I ran a spark plug in and it felt a bit loose going in, so I'll take it down to the shop and see what ...

Super Rat 93 Cylinder Head Repairable??

Well I ran into another little glitch today when I pulled this cylinder head out of the box to paint it. I hadn't noticed this before, but I don't know how I missed it. The question is: is it repairable or do I look for a new head? Any ideas on what may have caused this? Thanks

Re: Reed Cage & Manifold ID

Ed, so if these were made to fit those model bikes mentioned above, did the cylinders have to be modified to get the most benefit from them or could they be used without cylinder modification?

Re: Reed Cage & Manifold ID

Clarence, what's got me puzzled, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that none of the bikes you mention came stock with a reed valve intake. Did Hodaka make these as a way to modify those cylinders with 2-bolt connections from piston port to reed valve induction?

Reed Cage & Manifold ID

Can anyone ID this manifold w/reed valve? It fits a 24mm Mikuni carb, but only has 2 holes where it mounts to the cylinder. All the ones I've seen have a 4 hole mount. It was on the Ace 100b+ when I got it. Thanks.

The above two posts serve as a good reminder to all of us who use tools on a regular basis. Its so easy to become complacent. You only have two eyes. Same goes with hearing protection. I developed tinnitus (ringing in the ears) a few years ago, and have to blame it on using chainsaws, weed trimmers,...

Van Tech Front Fork Assembly

I hope I don't start a bidding war here, but there is a Van Tech fork assembly listed on Ebay right now for anyone who may be looking for one. (not mine)

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

The new piston measures 50.50mm and fits snugly in the cylinder with about .005 clearance. Speaking of clearance, Clarence, there are a couple of pics of the old cylinder in one of the earlier posts. Someone did a sloppy job of enlarging the ports in my opinion. Jack, you threw me off when you menti...

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

You guys are right. It's a 24mm carb alright. I read the article "reed carefully" and really don't want to go that route. A little too much modifying to suit me. Would a k&n filter fit if I decided to go with the reed set-up? I know I'm asking a lot of questions here, but sooner or lat...

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

Thanks for that info, Otilla, I'll check it out. I've read of Rich's work, and appreciate his expertise, but I was just looking for a simple yes or no answer on whether the piston would work or not on the stock cylinder. I'll have to give him a call. Here's a pic of everything lined up (cylinder, re...

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

Rich, I appreciate your help but you're beating around the bush. All I'm trying to do here is find out what will work. If this one won't work, then I'll sell it and find something that will. If porting the cylinder proves too costly, then I'll stick with plan A and use a piston port piston. Thanks, ...

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

So, if the good cylinder is properly ported, the new piston shown should work. Is that correct? If so, I'll have to think about what I want to do. This piston came from Strictly Hodaka, but i don't know how long ago. Thanks, JackM

Re: The 2 the Max Project

Max, my wife and I have been using ebay almost since their beginning. The one thing (and pretty much only thing) you can go by is the sellers feedback. No matter how much you want to buy something you want or need, you are taking a chance if their feedback is low or less than excellent. JackM

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

Here are some pics of the two cylinders side by side. The one on the left was on the bike along with the piston shown. I now don't believe that it was an 01 dirt squirt cylinder, but really don't know what it was off of. The only difference I can see is the bottom fin is solid on the old one and ind...

Re: Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

Jack, the cylinder that was on it was the 01 dirt squirt, but I don't want to use that cylinder. I'm just fixing this bike up to putt around on trails, and really not interested in modifying the new cylinder to accommodate the new reed-type piston. Your answer cleared things up for me. I figured the...

Reed Valve vs Piston Port Ace 100b+

The Ace 100 I got a while back came with what i think is an 01 Dirt Squirt cylinder with a reed valve intake. He included the proper cylinder and a brand new SR Wiseco piston kit with the sale. Its a reed valve piston, so can it still be used in the original cylinder? I don't know what the po's orig...
