Re: Super Rat Model 98 Modification
Thanks for all of the comments/advice guys. The next thing I'm going to have to mull over is how much money do I want to spend and how much the bike may be worth afterwords. Having the cylinder replated will cost me around $200.00 alone, not to mention the cost of a new piston/ring. I would not open...

Re: Super Rat Model 98 Modification
Danny, I double checked the engine serial # and is an L-18xxx and the frame is G-12xxx, indicating that it is a model 98, so I suppose the cases were bored. The carb is a 32mm, and the cylinder 123cc. I'm posting a pic of the head which is marked 9U2501. I don't know what the U means. Should be a 97...

Re: Super Rat Model 98 Modification
Jack, I believe you may have misunderstood me. It's not that I want to modify, but that someone already has converted it to a model 97 top end. I took some measurements but I'm using a cheap digital caliper. The outside diameter of the bottom of the cylinder (spigot) is 62.1mm. Inside diameter at bo...

Re: Super Rat Model 98 Modification
Danny, The bore looks to be about 55.6 or 55.7 mm. if I measured correctly. The super combat shows a 56 mm bore, so it looks like maybe thats what I have. I believe they called it an alumiferric cylinder. The cases don't look like they have been bored. The engine # L-18xxx is correct for a model 98....

Super Rat Model 98 Modification
I'm just wondering if anyone on here has modified a model 98 by putting on a larger cylinder and head (123cc) and a larger carb (32mm Mikuni). Not positive, but I believe those parts are for a Super Combat model 97. Checking the cylinder bore, I found that a bit of the plating (chrome plating??) has...

Re: Tools of the trade. History of the past
Interesting to see the prices of those bikes, in particular, the new Husqvarnas. I bought a new 250 'cross back in '71 and it cost me around $1200.00 if I remember correctly.

Re: Steering Stem Ball Bearings model 98
That's a good idea! I should have known better because I've had it happen to me before. Sometimes little things like ball bearings, springs and such get hard to find, especially when you have a lot of clutter, like I do, in my garage. This is another subject, but how do you post pictures on this sit...

Re: Steering Stem Ball Bearings model 98
Vic, the sizes are correct. I won't be putting the stem back on until after I get the frame painted, which may be a while yet. When I do, I'll try putting them back the way they should be, with the small ones on top. The steering felt fine before I disassembled it, so I guess we'll just have to wait...

Re: Steering Stem Ball Bearings model 98
Olddogs, I thought I might have miscounted them, but I did not, 26 small and 22 larger. Its good to know which ones go where though. Thanks, Jack

Steering Stem Ball Bearings model 98
OK so yesterday I removed the steering stem from the frame and managed to drop some of the ball bearings on the garage floor. I believe I found all of them, (hopefully 48), 22 are a bit larger than the other 26. Without having to do it by trial and error, which ones go in the top race and which in t...

Re: What Paint Colors Hodaka Orange & Blue Model 98
Thanks Rick, but I'm not doing a complete restoration here, mainly just a preservation, and trying to keep the costs down. I just bought a can of Rustoleum Navy Blue for a little over $3.00, whereas the price of Paul's paint is $44.00. I already have a can of closely matching orange, so why spend an...

Re: What Paint Colors Hodaka Orange & Blue Model 98
I'll check that out, Victor. Thanks. Know of a good clear coat brand to use? I've used a product from Eastwood before, that was resistant to gas, but ended up with orange peel, due to not using it properly, I guess. There were no instructions on the can.

Re: What Paint Colors Hodaka Orange & Blue Model 98
MTrat, Good answer!! I happen to already have a can of that sitting around here somewhere that I had bought for my Kubota tractor & Zero turn. Why didn't I think of that?? Now to find a match for the blue frame. Thanks
Jack

What Paint Colors Hodaka Orange & Blue Model 98
I'm looking for the best quality spray-can paint that most closely matches the '74 model 98 Super Rat orange tank and dark blue frame.

Re: Bike Support/Stand
Matt, I won't be needing to borrow your milk crate, lol. My riding days are pretty much over, sad to say, except for taking a put put ride to the mail box on one of my bikes once in a while. I'm old and retired and just like to bring some of these old bikes back to life. If I could figure out how to...

Re: Bike Support/Stand
Victor. I wasn't sure if this bike (model 88) when I got it last week, was supposed to have a kickstand attached or not. I couldn't find where one was supposed to mount, so just figured there wasn't one. Thanks for your offer, anyway. Jack

Re: Bike Support/Stand
Socalhodaka, that's what I'm talking about, right there, if they're still available, or an aftermarket one that is similar. I'll check Paul's site. Thanks.

Re: Bike Support/Stand
Thanks for the pics. I saw somewhere that Hodaka used to make a triangle type side stand to fit the rear wheel and wonder which if any modern triangle stands would work/fit.

Bike Support/Stand
Hello - New member here and new to Hodakas. What type/brand bike stand do you use for a Super Rat model 98 (with down pipe and no kick stand)?
