Re: swing arm extension

Thanks for your reply. I also love these bikes for the same reasons. Simplicity of design and interchangability of parts plus a lot of shared info to work with.
Its great that 40 plus years on people are still improving these machines....

swing arm extension

I am contemplating building a slightly customised Hodaka 125 . My other Hodaka projects (ace 100b , reeded Wombat and Super Combat have stayed pretty close to original but I have assembled quite a few bits and pieces and now want to build a bike for trail riding and Vintage Enduro incorporating the ...

Re: New Hodaka in Oz

That is great news Wayne . I am looking forward to hearing that both Zeek and yourself have managed to get rego on your "non complianced " bikes.
Having rego opens up a lot of places to ride . I really want a Thunderdog now!

Re: New Hodaka in Oz

hi Wayne was that 250ED really registered back in the day? I thought the 250 SL (street legal ) was the only 250 Hodaka that could be registered? would love to see the "period" pic of it with plates on! i thought the compliance plate on the ED would say "for off road competition use o...

Re: SL175/03 Wombat mash-up

Hey Matt That sounds like a good idea to me! I recall seeing a picture of something similar to that in Hodaka racing colours photographed in a wheat field near Athena Oregon. I believe it was made by Greg? at California Hodaka? There was a nice looking lady in the photo as well. Someone else out the...

Re: Spark arrestor on an ACE 100

Hey Bert
where in Australia are you?
might have a spare one (although if not you could probably get one through SH or the other vendors in USA for a lot less than the hassle of making one)
Will have a look for you when I am home(Sydney) next week.

Re: Model 98 Project Update

looks nice.
I got lucky and picked up a model 98 in pieces a couple of years ago in far north queensland australia.
Its may favourite Hodie at the moment.Next step is to fit a HT2 pipe to it as the original style low pipe wont cut it for the Vinduros i am mainly riding it in.

Re: Need help with correct exhaust

it is interesting because sometime in 1970 the 100B got the "later model' exhaust but retained the smaller speedo and "low "front guard. "Cycle Guide" from November 1970 shows a 100B in that form. Would be interested to know when that change occurred.

Re: Project Dirt Squirt

Zeek A dirt squirt frame is same as a Combat wombat (except for shorter swing arm) and the CW frame is the same as a wombat (bar maybe a tab or two for battery box) and wombats were road legal in Australia so unless the inspector googles 'registering D..t Sq...t in Oz (he would probably end up here!...

Re: aftermarket coils

Thanks Danny Appreciate your input. That makes a lot of sense and confirms what my electronically illiterate brain was telling me. Probably would work with CDI but might shorten its life span . That equals false economy so better to stick with an original coil. Might try one of the aftermarket coils...

aftermarket coils

looking at replacing the coil on a Super Combat.Has anyone experience with generic 6/12V coils that are touted as suitable for CDI (and points )ignition on Hodakas? Ideally you would always use the original part but I am curious about these alternative coils. Would they be more likely to result in f...

Re: Super combat timing

Thanks Dirty Rat think I found marks.Timed it to fire at around 2.4 BTDC and had it running fairly sweetly(briefly) on the weekend. I shut it down and couldnt get it to run again. Thought i might have bumped the timing out and left it .I was clutch starting the bike as I dont have a kick lever that ...

Super combat timing

Have finally got my Super Combat back together after pretty much complete rebuild. Engine has rebore, bearings seals etc but otherwise stock. Have refitted cdi plate and rotor but no idea how to time it. Was thinking that if the plate is "centered' between the 2 mounting screws (bolts in my case...

Re: Probably a bit TOO lean...

I had a situation recently when the bike locked up solid and I was sure it was seized. then it freed up but seemed to have no compression.Fortunately I had felt that "no compression" feeling before and checked the clutch which had fallen apart - temporarily jamming the engine solid. Not su...

have managed to find one and its on the way. Will ultimately end up changing to reeded Cw setup on this bike but will be good to fit the combat pipe now as the current pipe is developing holes as fast as I can plug them!

Re: Wombat /combat exhaust

I guess the main Question is if the screw on adapter off the later wombats (which looks similar to the super Rats but would be a larger thread) will fit the combat pipe? Might have to find one and have a go.

Wombat /combat exhaust

I am thinking of putting a combat wombat exhaust on my reeded early 94 wombat. Does the slip joint from the 94A wombat fit the combat pipe? . If so has anyone experience with swapping the wombat air cleaner over to the other side?
