Re: clunk

I not sure if it would cause the issue you are describing. It is meant to stay stationary, so when it stops, it should act like it was intended, ie. hold the roller holder and allow the kick shaft cams to force the rollers out into contact with the gear. The main issue with it not indexed into its s...

Re: clunk

Could be worn parts in the kick start system (worn roller holder, worn cam surfaces on the kick shaft, damaged or cracked kick gear) or something loose in the transmission. Sounds like it's time to split the cases and examine what you have going on in there. Kicking it slowly doesn't put much tensio...

Re: Thoughts on replacement pistons for the model 03 Wombat!!!

Yes, I'm aware of that solution. I was just thinking outside the box for another solution. Not everyone has a spare 99, 01, 02 crankshaft sitting around and with this method you would use your same crankshaft, just rebuild it with a machined 94/95 rod. Like I said, just a thought to try to keep thes...

Thoughts on replacement pistons for the model 03 Wombat!!!

Here are a couple of thoughts I had as it relates to the model 03 Wombat and a lack of pistons for them. There were only 4000 model 03 Wombats produced. There were about 17700 model 94 and 94A Wombats produced. There were also 8000 model 95 Combat Wombats produced and 3900 model 97 Super Combats pro...

Re: Combat wombat piston

Jammied,
You can always check to see if the cylinder could be plated to bring it back to at least .040 oversize. Once plated, the cylinder usually last much longer that just an iron liner (as long as nothing foreigh gets in there).

Re: Combat wombat piston

Ivan,
The AT-1 used a 16mm piston pin and the Hodaka's used a 15mm pin. I don't think they are interchangable. Possibly Wiseco used the same casting to make the blanks and then machined them for the specific bike.

Re: Combat wombat piston

What is stamped with "06" the cylinder or the piston? If it is the piston, then it should be a .060 piston. But, if the cylinder is already worn, another .060 piston probably would be too lose in the bore. If it is the cylinder, that stamped number has nothing to do with oversize pistons,...

Re: Run-away motor!

The loose carburetor cap would in all probability cause a major air leak. While the air is still going through the carburetor, it's not flowing over the jets as intended. That, plus if the cap was loose, the slide might not be returning all the way to the bottom of its travel, leaving it like an ext...

Looks very much like the accessory pipe Hodaka used to sell for the Ace 90 in their Race Parts catalog.

Re: Aftermarket rear shocks

There are a number of modern shocks that you can use of a Super Rat. It all depends on what the bike is going to be used for and what you are willing to spend. It also depends on if you want the shocks to look like the originals (for a restoration) or if you don't mind a newer look. So, let us know ...

Re: Ignition troubles

Probably the easier way to solve the problem, shouldn't have any problems with a new "21 century" system. I wouldn't trash the old system, someone well versed on those systems might be able to figure out the problem or how to fix it. Also, some of the components might help someone else who...

Re: HELP! Piston ID

MTrat, I know a lot of Webco heads were actually designed to run without a head gasket, so two would indicate someone was trying to lower compression. An easy way to determine a possible reason would be to run a compression test of the bike with the two gaskets and then try it with one gasket. Just ...

Here is all I have been able to locate so far, it's from the archives: Forum Admin - 01/22/07 at 9:11am Jack the message Ed left is totally correct but I would like to try and add to it. I believe the crown height of the Ace 100 pistons ( double ring pistons) was aprox. .065 " taller than that ...

Bob, Here's a copy of a post from 2017 that talks about the article at the old Strictly Hodaka site. As that site no longer exist I don't know if the information is still available. Best chance of locating it would probably be to contact Paul and see if he still has it on his computer. Also might ch...

Bob, Here is a photo of the two side by side. You can see in the photo that the Ace piston (2 ring) has a slightly higher dome than the Super Rat piston. I remember reading the article about the differences, just don't remember where it was. I will continue looking for the article and send it to you...

Re: Ignition troubles

Unless the unit was faulty 20 years ago when pt in the box, then it should still be okay, these units were pretty reliable. I would start by checking all the wires to make sure there were no breaks or shorts anywhere. Also make sure all the correct connections are made. Verify that you have good gro...

Re: Rat head/Ace piston

I think the two gaskets are more to lower the compression to an acceptable level. I don't know if the piston would hit the head, but I don't think it would (maybe on larger overbores). A quick way to check is to take some soft solder wire and lay it across the top of the piston so it reaches from ed...

The 90 race head doesn't have the machined area for drilling and tapping a second spark plug hole? Also, the combustion chamber was 48mm wide, instead of 50mm.

Re: Hodaka Q&A

My guess would be that "Yes", the Ace 90 race was competitive in it's day, judging from the race reports I have read from back then.
What would signify a race part, an "R" at the end of the part number. (Most of the race part numbers also started with a 91)

Clarence, AS far as I know, the last official supplement's would have been the one for for Ace 100 B and the Super Rat (model 93), which both had their third printing in July 1972 (copyright dates of 1971). I believe the part #'s for the supplements were WM 103 for the Ace 100 B and WM 104 for the S...

Re: Hodaka owners handbooks

James, As already noted, there is no manual specifically for the model 96 Dirt Squirt. But, all the information you need would be contained in the manual covering the Ace 90, with supplements covering the Ace 100, Ace 100B and Super Rat. The manual covering the Wombat and Combat Wombat would also be...
