Re: Twin Rat Restoration
I have ordered another pan from Bruce Young in Idaho and I will repair it the same way. I like using brass on that sheet metal, flows on real nice and is strong. Its easy to do, just takes some equipment. Nothing like doing things yourself. Sure saves a buck also. Welding those ears on like I did is...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Merry Christmas! Today I finished the W.A.R. on my seat pan. Leaving off from yesterday I needed to put the rear bolting ears back on and finish welding the seat up. And that's what I did today. The ears were broken and had been welded in the past. I welded them some more after removing some of the ...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Along the edge of the pan its thin sheet metal and I have bought some edging for this gauge of sheet metal that I will use all around the edges of this pan. This is to protect the new cover from the sharp edge of the metal. Now, this edging I will use on my Bultaco Sherpa S 100cc that I have started...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Ok now here I have clamped a small piece of rectangular tubing underneath the front of the pan to get that front edge nice and straight while we weld it up good. Notice how its clamped very good just giving me space to weld it. I will weld it up on both sides. Then I will wash it in water to get off...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
W.A.R. on a 93A seat pan. That's it gentlemen, I am going to show how to weld and repair a seat pan in case anybody would like to try it themselves some time. The bottom pic is before starting. First, I removed the cover and foam and discovered it was all rusted between the pan and foam. Need to get...

Re: Etiquette on the Forum
I have years ago learned to always treat others with respect and treat them how I would want to be treated. That is the Golden Rule of life. I learned years ago being nice and polite will get you much more than being mean spirited, arrogant and rude. I did not ever put anyone down. When I was the su...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
I used to design and build welding fixtures and jigs for an earth moving manufacturer in McAllen, Texas for years. I have wondered what the welding fixture looked like for a Hodaka motorcycle frame. No doubt all bolt holes were located with precision with this welding fixture but quite often in weld...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
On this bike I only had about 5/32 " of clearance at the most between the tank and the frame at the very rear of the tank. With rubber bushings mounted in the tank just your weight could easily push down the tank that much from sitting over the tank. Also there is some further play in the bolt ...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Roger Karren suggested doing this the other day with a "pool noodle." I used a water pipe insulator because of the color. Slightly more masculine than a Pink Pool Noodle. Great Idea, shoved it right up under the tank and then trimmed it off. That's just what we needed, a little protection ...

I know its not bad, I just thought the one I was going to put on here was a 93 model. But it wasn't. I just wanted to get this baby finished up soon. Now I will have to fix this and recover it. But things happen.

BY the way gentlemen those wheels were done for me by Buchanans spoke and rim in Azusa, CA. using there stainless polished spokes and nipples, Just beautiful work they do. Those fenders almost match the tank in shine don't they, not quite, but almost. Today I am going to try and repaint an air cover...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Do you know that since I got my gas tank back I noticed they dropped it at the chrome place or something because it has a small dent on the bottom now. That was not there before. That's ok, its on the very bottom and you cant even see it. Thank God it was not on the side. On the first tank something...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Ok guys, here is my baby with the rear tire mounted on now. Everything fit just like its supposed to. The only thing is that you have to put that bolt that fastens the brake stay bar on the hub before you put the wheel on the bike, or you cannot get it on later. But anyway all is coming along. Slowl...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Ok here is a pic of my seat. I think I will put a reinforcement plate under where the two boltings ears are. They have cracked the pan out pretty bad and then I will makes some new ears out of some 10 gauge sheet metal. Just slightly heavier duty than what they are made out of now. Then I will rivet...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Sometimes in manufacturing parts are not available and sometimes they will substitute sometimes parts that will work just to get things done. And this could be an example of this. Normally a substitution would be approved by engineering first. If they approved it then it would be done. The only diff...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Yeah man, a buck a piece for a small M6 bolt? That's nonsense! I also got a small bucket full of Hodaka fasteners from Brother Bruce Young for a cheap price, I think about 25.00 bucks. I will be sending them off to be plated in a day or two. There are some good fasteners in there like shock bolts, a...

Thanks for that info on pegs and backing plate, that's good to know. I have those holes on the backing plate on this bike but I can easily fill them up with some bondo type product I use. Thanks Speaking of pool noodles in most hardware stores they sell air conditioning pipe insulation that is black...

Re: "O Sweetness"
On one of the Ebay Rats for sale, it states the bike is original and it shows the front hub with a nice shine on it. Joe Ormande says his 93 model came with a front hub polished when he bought it knew. He says he has owned it since he bought he from a dealer years ago. I have investigated this a lit...
