Re: DPO
I would not weld it. Welding can cause warping of sealing surfaces. Repair with a plug will not ever cause any warping. Also, trying to get down into a small hole with TIG is hard to do. Unless you open the hole up, then that takes more heat, more possible chance for warping. Every body screws up. I...

Re: DPO
It can be fixed, its not ruined. You can tap the hole and screw in an aluminum threaded piece. Screw it in tight. Also lock tight it in then drill and tap for your new screw thread. I would not recommend using a dissimilar metal plug either. It can cause drill drift when you go to drill and tap the ...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
I have ordered an eight inch hard felt polishing wheel and some of the Brownells 555 polishing compounds. With these I should be able to make that fender shine even more. I will post some pics when I do. Thanks

Re: Model 93 rear fender
Too bad they did not use stainless on the gas tanks also instead of chroming carbon steel. The stainless tanks would last forever. Plus they would be easy to polish. Thanks Gentlemen.

Re: Model 93 rear fender
I had thought of that but I thought they probably were not stainless steel. I assumed that they went to painted carbon steel fenders too reduce costs as stainless is somewhat expensive. Plus the cost to polish the stainless really added some labor to manufacturing costs. Spraying on some paint was m...

Re: "O Sweetness"
Here is a pic of two triple tree top clamps for my twin rat resto project and a pair of fork caps. The other pair of fork caps I all ready installed on some forks. All of this polishing was done on my polishing bench using a stitched eight inch polishing wheel using Brownells Polish O Ray compound a...

Re: "O Sweetness"
Here is a before and after pic of one of the triple tree top clamps for the 93A's I am restoring now. I polished it on my polishing bench using Brownells Polish O Ray polishing compound and then finishing it using Mothers aluminum polish. It will look a lot nicer now than before.

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
That's an excellent question. I have used for years Polish O Ray sold by Brownells Gun Smith supply company in Montezuma IA. Here is a pic of the most coarse grit I used. Its a 140 grit that you use for the deepest scratches. Then you go to the finer grits like 220, 400, 500 and then finish it with ...

You just don't realize it, but you are Gentlemen. If you experienced what I went through with that demon possessed wife of mine from Mexico and her family. Not only are you Gentlemen but you are angels compared to those animals. The President is right, build that wall!

Re: "O Sweetness"
Here are some pics of the fasteners that I have replated in the past. Look at how bright and shiny they look, almost like chrome. Note the kick starter and gear shifter. They look great also. I have also chrome plated kick starters and shifters but its a little more money for rechroming. The zinc pl...

Re: "O Sweetness"
Here are a group of Hodaka parts and fasteners going to be zinc plated soon. Most of them I got from Bruce Young. They will be used for projects coming up. First I clean them in a vibratory tumbler to remove all rust, grease and dirt. Then I send them to the plater. They come back very nice. Just a ...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Yesterday I repaired this rear fender. It was damaged on the very rear end but I was able to fix it just about good as new. Then I polished it on my bench polisher. Look at that shine! I can almost shave in that finish. That's a lovely combination, shiny chrome look with bright red. Really beautiful...

Model 93 rear fender
Does anyone have a model 93 rear fender that does not have cracks in it? It can be dented but if its cracked or broken its hard to fix. I would pay fair for it. I need one for my number two 93A that I am restoring. If any body has one please let me know. I have one that is cracked and broken but I d...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
On these two bikes I am going to leave them as original. Another 93 bike that I am going to rebuild will be a rider. That bike I will lengthen the swingarm. I used to ride a rat when I was 14 years old. I remember how the bike handled back then. Yes it needed a lengthened swingarm!

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Ok Gentlemen. If any one needs some of those udrive rivets. You can buy them on ebay for about $1.97 for a bag of 100 with postage included. If you buy them elsewhere I think they charge 2 bucks each and then postage is extra. If anyone needs a few just email me your address and I will give you some...

Re: Twin Rat Restoration
Coming along here with engine in frame and a few other parts put on. Man I am really excited about this project. I am starting a repolish and repair on the rear fender right now. The bike had been flipped over, probably while doing a wheelie and the rear fender had some damage on the very end. I hav...

Here is the first frame after I painted it. Starting assembly of this baby with swingarm, and rear shocks. Re: front wheel seals
They have a big variety of seals. I have checked and they have some seals for the rear wheel also. Very reasonably priced just like these. They also have bearings. I have not had a chance to check what they have for fork seals but I will check on that when I can. Fork seals can be had for much less ...

Re: front wheel seals
They have lots of seals, bearings etc. Yes, they say on the literature they sent me, that they give discounts on quantity. But I bought ten for only $1.48 each, that's the good price man. I have not investigated them for fork seals but that I will do sometime. I have been getting fork seals and dust...

Re: "O Sweetness"
I just got in a set of wheels from Buchanans spoke and rim in Azusa, California. They installed polished stainless spokes and laced it all up. The rims Salt Lake Chrome in Salt Lake City had done previously. That's a little bit more shine than when they came from the factory but what the heck. They ...
