Re: M94 Transmission issues

Perhaps I should have said the dividers will not sacrifice anything on the top end (I don't doubt the gain but don't have a dyno). What I do know is that the dividers on a stock 32mm Mikuni on a stock Super Combat took an MX bike with no guts in the mid range, unrideable in the woods, and made it a ...

Re: M94 Transmission issues

Rich can modify your carb, and I think he usually works with your equipment rather than starting with an off the shelf carburetor. He has a website showing his many services. Note, carb vanes look simple, but they aren't. It is easy to do wrong, and not easy to do right. It would be nice if this wer...

Re: M94 Transmission issues

10,200 rpm from an iron bore Wombat isnt science, its amazing. As far as lacking low end, I am not surprised given the top end. But you might be able to have both worlds. I would contact Rich Gagnon at Rich's Taylor'd Porting and discuss a Venturi vaned 28mm Mikuni. He posts here as Racerclam. Might...

https://www.ridersdiscount.com/wiseco-piston-ring-50mm-1969cs-for-suzuki-rm-85-for-yamaha-yz-80-651973 Seems this same ring fits Yamaha 80 and Suzuki 85. Wonder if the piston also fits....? Also, this part number appears to attach to a single ring, not a two ring set. Might want to verify your part ...

Re: M94 Transmission issues

The problem now as I understand it is that when you release all throttle from WOT the engine will not idle back down, but hangs there at high rpm.

This is probably the pilot jet being too lean. In think Harry Taylor did a write up on the question years back.

Re: The 2 the Max Project

Having built prototypes that have worked first time every time, starting at age 16 and more or less tapering off recently, I am not driven to building a racer at all. Not anymore. Already have done that a couple three times, all successful. I am neither artist nor engineer, but rather an experienced...

Re: The 2 the Max Project

" In the case of airplanes and motorcycles they should at least look fast and in the case of motorcycles, mechanical." Since airplanes are capable of falling out of the sky from great heights, looking fast isn't an engineering criteria. It isn't even art in my opinion. Motorcycles can't fa...

I seriously doubt you will stumble on a mass produced bushing block that just happens to fit what you are doing. I was suggesting making one from scratch.

Re: The 2 the Max Project

The obvious place to support your pivot assembly is between the two opposed levers on the welded shaft, directly over the frame tube. You could leave one of your bearings in place, eliminate the second bearing and any connecting shaft between the two bearings. Quarter inch stub would be enough, so t...

Re: Flabbergasted

Where did you read the article about using at least a 400 main jet? The last thing I want to do is seize a new piston. Thanks, JackM While 400 might be a bit much for a small carburetor, using a main jet that is too large for the application will not cause seizure. Usually it is the other way aroun...

Re: Headlights with different wire colors!

If there is no power at the headlight connections, follow the dead wire or each dead wire backwards and check for voltage at each connection all the way back to the magneto, or the battery, depending on how the E-switch is set. It may be the only way to isolate the fault without relying on guess work.

Re: Flabbergasted

Working off of recollection only on this, the reason richer jets and needles are needed for reeds is the reduced intake reversion allowed by reeds. Air travels back and forth through a carburetor, even though we might think it only travels one direction. If you have ever watched a carburetor in acti...

Re: Hodaka battery #

This is what I found online: https://www.homedepot.com/p/UPG-SLA-6-Volt-F1-Terminal-AGM-Battery-UB645/203770472 It looks like the one I saw at the store, if a bit cheaper in price, but next time I go there, I will verify. Anyway, this is an SLA battery of about the right amp hour rating. You can ver...

Re: The 2 the Max Project

Regarding the goober welds on the steering head, I would be tempted to remove the gussets completely, clean the frame tubes, and start over. As for the expansion chamber fitment, if you find a combination that makes the whole body of the pipe work with the rest of the assembly but leaves the head pi...

From what I gather, you have a bike that you haven't personally run yet, but you are trying to sort out jetting numbers on a carb and intake system that isn't stock...... :?: Several folks have mentioned that reed setups need richer jetting but no one really has a database for reference, probably be...

You can also find a 6V - 4A hr battery at Home Depot for under $25. Same general size as Hodaka flooded cell battery but in SLA style, intended for power out alarm systems. They run very slightly higher static voltage than the flooded cell and can be charged with any 6V automotive charger in the 1 a...

Re: The 2 the Max Project

First observation: Shortening the levers will reduce brake authority requiring heavier pressures to activate brakes. If assembly is light to start with, increasing the required force to activate the brakes isn't a good idea. Second observation: While everything inside an expansion chamber has an eff...

Max, If your quarter inch rod does bend in use, changing to 12mm would be much better, but stainless steel has very different working characteristics than carbon steel. It's not just me. " I'm putting my money on the brake pivot rod bending within the first three cautious and gingerly test rides....Ed." Nor am I suggesting that you stand on or jump on the brake lever with your full weight. The point is simpler than that. It has nothing to do with the size...
