Re: 250ED seals
Thanks Rich, I got the correct seal, phew. It all came back to me but when I got all the seals locally they didn't have that one in stock, it wasn't listed as an item. I had planned to buy that one in but much time has elapsed (too much time) and I had forgotten to order it, fortunately, my local bl...

250ED seals
I am looking for a bit of help, I have finally got to re assemble my 250ED motor. I had sourced all new engine oil seals locally (postage and the sagging dollar will break my budget, a $US10 seal ends up being $40+ in Australia), but I can't find the RH or clutch side crankshaft oil seal (pt # 71100...

Re: coming to America - Hodaka Days
Hello Jack, did you have much trouble getting accommodation, you will have to tell what your accommodation is like, I hope to get there in 2019 so will be looking for a referral. Your ten days will go quick, I love Colorado, my first was for 2 weeks, the second was for 3 weeks, this next one will be...

One Hundred Fifty Lashes is a Pale Ale of which I am not a fan, I haven't tried that staple, but any cold beer on a hot day is welcome to run past my taste palate! I am a rum man, Bunderberg or Bundy Rum is my preferred intoxicating refreshment. Getting back to my motor rebuild, I have split the cas...

Re: Clutch cage nut
Sorry Bullfrog, I have been too busy to respond but I see the other Aussie has come thru with a translation! Yes an arvo is this afternoon. I borrowed the rattle gun but I see I am going to have to buy one, to answer in true Aussie venacular, 'bloody handy tool mate, it did a beaut job'. The one cor...

Re: Clutch cage nut
A quick jolt from an air/electric impact gun should pop it right off. You can usually just hold the clutch with a rag to keep from slicing your fingers, or use a rubber oil filter style strap wrench. The only thing I cant remember is if the 250 is a left or right hand thread. The 125 clutch is a le...

Re: 250ED stator plate water damage
Hello Bruce, yes, in Australia, I was thinking the same thing, I have a mate who is a top machinist and into restoring old Ariels, he is the go to man for engineering for Ariel owners here in Australia. He has helped me in the past so I hope he will have a solution for this. Failing that, I will be ...

Re: 250ED stator plate water damage
Yes Bruce, very mindful of magneto side thread damage, but, fresh in my mind was my own experience as a youth when I struggled with a Wombat flywheel, the flywheel removal tool was borrowed and had a ridiculous taper on the end of the bolt, it flared the end of my crank rod! A machinist mate saved t...

Re: 250ED stator plate water damage
Well I had an Ahaa moment and a Woohoo moment this morning. The Ahaa was when I realised there was no sidecover gasket in place, that would help explain the moisture in the side cover, I still think the drop kick son had a hand in it, old Ron wouldn't have let that happen to his doggy! The Woohoo wa...

Re: 250ED stator plate water damage
I'll have to post another pic of the flywheel, but it is intact, does look like a bit has been cut off though! That effect is from water laying in the sidecover and it is a build up of slime. I had already partially stripped the motor, the head and barrel are of checking the piston and rings, I have...

250ED stator plate water damage
Well my "Project Thunderdog" took a severe hit this morning, after the elation of hearing my Suzuki rings had arrived I decided to finish cleaning the motor and fit rings and motor back in frame this weekend. I hadn't yet tried kicking motor over until I ascertained the condition of the bo...

Re: Hodaka 250ED piston
My main concern has been whether the Suzuki piston is compatible, dome height, skirt shape etc and not affect performance unduly, it obviously works because it has doing so for many years, but I have never known how well. I googled for info recently but no information or cross reference could be fou...

Hodaka 250ED piston
OK, one for the technically minded, I am restoring a 250ED down here in Australia, I recently bought this of an old mate (87years old) who has had it since new, many years ago he seized it and had to rebore and fit new O/S piston, back then he couldn't get a Hody piston so had used a Suzuki TS/RL 25...

I would have thought that a factory painted yellow Rat would have the air filter can painted to match it.

Re: 250ED exhaust
Found the hole, obscure little location isn't it! I am not restoring this old girl as such, it is in a really good original condition so it is only getting a thorough clean, to the point where I decided to pull the motor out so I can clean the frame and motor nooks and cranny's far better. A few iss...

250ED exhaust
My Thunderdog restoration is coming along nice, the next big challenge is to fix the exhaust pipe, it has had a couple of big hits at the front bend which has actually moved it out of alignment, as you can see in the photo, the exhaust bracket isn't anywhere near the system setting rubber. The exhau...

Re: New Hodaka in Oz
hi Wayne was that 250ED really registered back in the day? I thought the 250 SL (street legal ) was the only 250 Hodaka that could be registered? would love to see the "period" pic of it with plates on! i thought the compliance plate on the ED would say "for off road competition use ...

Re: New Hodaka in Oz
Makes sense now Zeek, I have to re register my recently purchased 250ED soon, the plates had been surrendered many years ago and old Ron had no idea what the rego number was. If I have that it smooths the way thru our local rego mob, I know I have photos of the bike when Ron bought it so I hope the ...

Re: New Hodaka in Oz
Hello Zeek, Just curious, what boffins would they be and why do they want proof that Hodaka's were legitimately sold in Australia? The wording sounds a bit suss, legitimately sold, is someone intimating they were bought in illegally?? I will be a hard one to prove but I do know that Trade Service he...

Model year
Can I pin down a model year for my 250ED with engine and frame numbers?
Frame = J01741, engine = N01795
I think it is a 1974, bought here in Australia in 74 at least.
