Re: Vibration at specific rev range
Hi all, this is Charlie via my wife's fantastic fingers. This morning I had some pretty serious surgery on my shoulder so I will be one-armed for quite awhile so posts from me will be few. This topic proves the value of this forum and what it is all about. Everyone can share their ideas and views in...

Re: Spark arrestor
Is the stinger 1 1/4" or 1 1/8"? Usually you can find one on the internet auction place used for 50-75.00. Do a search for whichever size you need spark arrestor. You might have to saw a portion of the inlet pipe off and hose clamp it together but the good news is the aftermarket aluminum ...

Re: Vibration at specific rev range
Very good Tim! Please keep in touch with us on this side of the pond. Please look around your area for fellow vintage enthusiasts. Of course you are always welcome here (and any other chat groups), but the personal connection is harder due to geography. Maybe you can start a local vintage chapter. I...

Re: Greetings from England
Hi Greg and welcome! Your oil leak may be coming from a loose countershaft nut. Very common and easy to fix situation. As far as Hodaka spares....I would suggest checking the internet for vintage motorcycle groups or clubs on your local level. I imagine that there are local guys in your area that ar...

We should find out soon. I sent Tim a known good flywheel and key. Remember, make mine unsweet tea. (or light salt on my crow!)

History question
I was rummaging around in an old box of Hodaka literature and stuff and found a cashe of decals. My question is....Who or what is "PQ"? There were several decals referencing "PQ". Ed, maybe you can shed some light. I didn't realize there were so many decals and such available. I ...

Package arrived today !!!! I owe you Doug! Did you get a new unit? Should have some sort of timing specs. OK....I took a glance and according to the specs listed for the 125 with analog Powerdynamo it suggested 1.2-1.4 BTDC.

Std. is 50.0 mm. Sorry, I missed the 2nd part of your question. The pistons are different (crown heights). Ace pistons have taller crown heights.

Re: Day One - New Project
Hey Max! Here's my nickles worth (inflation you know). I looked at the pic and it appears that the corrosion pits are VERY shallow and do not extend from the bore to the outside of the deck. Is that correct? If so and it were mine I might have my machinist (that's me) skim the surface of the deck to...

Re: HT3 Pipe Question
It seems like at some point I found myself needing a 97 exhaust flange and didn't have one. I THINK I remember chucking a Model 99,01 or 02 flange up in my lathe and boring the ID out to fit the 125 head pipe. I don't recall using the inner flange but used a thin coat of HT RTV to seal it up. I hope...

Re: Vibration at specific rev range
Tim, thanks for the pics. That removes the possibility of wrong flywheel, loose rivets, etc. A photo sometimes can give a lot of info. I probably would not attempt anymore lapping procedures as the taper is designed to have a slight interference fit. Removal of large amounts material isn't really th...

Re: Vibration at specific rev range
I started with suspecting the flywheel and to this point I've read nothing to change my suspicions. I'll buy in on the bet and stay the course with the flywheel theory until this is resolved or more info becomes available. I sure would like to see a picture of this flywheel tho....for a few reasons....

Re: She Won't Start!
Is the plug wet/smells of fuel? If so, check for spark. If no spark, I would suspect a lack of ground due to the fresh paint/powdercoat.

Re: Cleaning engine case
I have used various NuCalgon products with good results in the field, but the product I have been using for the MC stuff is called Black Max. It isn't as acidic as some others. You might google Black Max coil cleaner and see if you can buy it online. Just remember, this stuff is potent. Follow the d...

Re: Cleaning engine case
RLW, I am a HVAC tech by profession and we use a product in the field to clean and remove oxidation from aluminum condenser coils. Mixed properly it does a very good job of cleaning and brightening the center cases. If a return to factory look is desired you can take the cleaner and nylon scrub pads...

Re: Vibration at specific rev range
I'm with Max, STRANGE. Does it experience the same vibration when revved to that particular RPM when sitting still? If so, It would be safe to limit the search to engine only. Max is absolutely right about the crankshaft possibly being out of true could account for the vibration. If the crank was re...
