Re: Difference Between Ace 100 & Ace 100b b+
According to model chart, B+ production started at A-67613 and B production started at A-51013, so your bike should be a B model. According to the workshop manual supplement the high front fender was introduced to the B model at A-51013. The Hodaka book states that your bike is a B+. Having said tha...

Re: High rev clutch slipping, 94 Wombat
Are you certain the clutch is slipping? I have had bikes that jump in and out of gear causing the symptoms you describe. This could be a worn out or maladjusted shifter mechanism.

Re: More Road Toad kick start questions .....
Repositioning the kickstart on the spline won't give it any more travel. With the kickstart lever and spring removed the shaft can be rotated backwards infinitely, sort of like winding a watch. The end result is that the kickstart lever can be positioned anywhere on the shaft and the engagement poin...

Re: Road Toad 100 kick start question ......
The kick roller retainer on the Toad is a substantial part, revised after the problems encountered on earlier models. I doubt that is your problem. The actual kick start shaft ramps can wear, but this usually results in a kick start that slips and won't engage properly. What model Toad do you have, ...

The letters on the shock are MDI. They are made by Forsa, a Chinese company. Here is a link to their website:

I'm pretty sure it's normal for the Squirt kick start to lay across the pipes heat shield.

The 93 pipe and 01 Toad pipe have the same slip fit dimensions, but that's all I know.

Re: Ace B+ vs Road Toad
Nice summation Ed. I forgot about the primary start, which I consider a nice thing to have on a woods bike. When I was was racing vintage hare scrambles we would often have a dead engine start. Racing a bike that you had to kick start, grab the clutch, shift into first, then release the clutch to ge...

Re: Ace B+ vs Road Toad
The biggest difference between the early Toad and the late Toad is the wheel size with the later models having the more normal 18 and 21 inch wheels. In my opinion the Toad is a much better bike than the Ace. The chassis is based on the Super Combat and the handling is much better. The aluminum cyli...

Re: '72 Wombat (94) Stopped on me twice
It's hard to diagnose over the internet, but it could be a fuel flow issue. If the fuel flow is poor the bike will run at partial throttle settings but when the throttle is opened there is not enough flow to the carb to support the increased demand. Have you checked the fuel flow through the petcock...

For a man who lives in north eastern Ontario, surely a bike with "off road" capability would provide you the opportunity to avoid answering those questions.

Oh, and one more thing. According to the workshop manual, early Aces had a three position dimmer switch, off, low and high.

Re: Ace main switch - using early type on B+ ???
Hi Ken; Here is what I can figure out: - The yellow wire from the magneto is AC power for the lights. Yes, you can route it to the dimmer switch. - The green wire from the magneto is power to charge the battery, which in turn powers the tail light. It needs to go to the rectifier. In the early model...

Re: Project Dirt Squirt
Would an Ace rear fender be better ? The Ace fender mounting holes won't line up correctly. In my opinion, I would go with a Wombat fender, despite what I said earlier. The Dirt Squirt and Wombat frames are essentially the same, except the Wombat has a horn mount. The Wombat swingarm will bolt up t...

Re: Project Dirt Squirt
Your head light ears don't look like Hodaka items to me. The Hodaka parts are definitely longer and use rubber bushings over the fork tubes. The Dirt Squirt rear fender can easily be swapped for a Wombat fender, but it may look a little odd as the Dirt Squirt uses a shorter swingarm than the Wombat....

Re: B+ shift adjustment
Your problem could very well be an adjustment issue, but there are a couple of things that often go bad. First off are the ball receiver and springs. These are located in the hollow transmission counter shaft. Over time and with a bit of abuse, the springs "unwind", upsetting the shifting....

Re: 100 racer
I turned a Road Toad into a vintage racer a few years ago, with the details of the project being published in the Resonator Revisited. The bike worked really well, but I had a problem with it destroying third gear in the transmission. The root cause is that the Toad does not have a cushioned primary...
