Re: Ace 100 mainshaft

Absolutely should slide into the bushing. On one occasion I had to "finesse" the spline end of the main shaft through the inner race of the ball bearing. I think I pulled it through with the Main Shaft Nut. I may have used a socket as a spacer or collar around the threaded section, put the...

Re: New Hodaka Owner

The shop manual indicates the Super Rat Ignition Coil mounts differently than the Ace. It's primary and secondary coil resistances are slightly different than the Ace 100. If you have an Ace 100 coil and can mount it, I'd use it. If you have no coil, a Used Ace coil would be serviceable. If you'd li...

That is a remarkable piece of work.

I thought I'd beaten my brains out restoring/rebuilding/reclaiming a B.

You have made me look like a piker.

Well done.

Re: Ace 100 rod side clearance

I'll give you my opinion, for what it's worth: If you are satisfied that radial play is "ok" I would do nothing. You are correct that there's a different spec for the iron cylinder Rat vs. the Ace. I've only rebuilt two Ace cranks, but pressing to a +/-.001" tolerance is similar to ch...

For the purposes of your immediate concern: is this Over Bored? a feeler gage between cylinder and Bottom of Piston skirt will do. I'd say a .005 feeler gage shouldn't go. Stock Iron Rat vs stock Iron Ace Piston ported: Workshop manual shows different intake transfer and exhaust durations. Different...

You're gonna want that safety wire.

It keeps the screws from unscrewing.

Get something that fits from the hardware store.

Don't leave home without that wire!

If it runs "right" I'd do nothing.

If it's too rich it'll tell you when you get on the throttle.

Then proceed with caution.

You might consider dropping the jet needle a notch.

Go slowly.

I think that's what's left of the dust seal. It looks beyond worn out. BUT... it is a bit of a pain to put the mag cover back on. In brief, the shift shaft has to be in the "same gear" as the foot selector mechanism. If the foot selected is in 4th and the shaft is nestled in 1st it ain't g...

Re: Wombat 125 Oil Leak

My guess is leaking crankshaft seal on clutch side of the crankshaft. This would put pressure pulses into the transmission cavity helping the oil out the breather. A quick draining of the trans will tell you if it's overfill. You can measure what comes out in a 2 cup measuring cup or similar. If you...

Thought this might be of interest.

It was a one year re-labeling of an old model towards the end of it's product life.

Better known as the A-100, later mass produced in Asia.

I bought one last year.

Re: Trials; 90 vs 100

I see that mikuni has offered a 16mm, but I can't find a site that has one in stock.

Plenty of 18mm mikunis available. $80 give or take.

Seems like you'd need to work up jetting on these. Maybe from scratch.

Plus you'd have to figure out how to flange mount them.

It would be interesting work.

The carb modifications noted by old dogs make a lot of sense. Only guy I know that'd do a good job on this would be Rich at Rich's Taylored Porting. His web site has a lot of info on this. Re: Trials; 90 vs 100

That's an important question.

I don't know, but I'd be inclined to say yes, lowering the exhaust port height by 2mm may give more HP at lower rpm.

The epoxy idea is intreaging, but the temperatures may be too high even for a test run.

That said, I'd try it if that's what your after.

My two cents.

Check Hodaka-parts.com for a manual. I only have the Ace & iron barell super rat workshop manuals. I don't believe they will have carb cleaning tips or instructions. It's likely you'll need a float bowl gasket. The original may tear on disassembly. I've made my own from gasket material available...

A quick test that MAY help: Remove spark plug Squirt half an eye dropper full of pre-mixed fuel into cylinder. Reinstall spark plug. Switch ignition be on. Kick repeatedly. If you get a brief run, it's going to indicate a fuel problem. If so, it's likely the carb will require complete disassembly an...
