Clarence

The Yamagouchi 80's made it to Washington state as my father had one in his collection. His was blue in color.

MY MODEL 71 HODAKA

I am looking at selling my Thunderdog. A perspective buyer wanted to check the motor number to see if it was the same as the vin number. Neither of us could find the location of the engine number. Where did Hodaka stamp the number on the 250 motor? Your assistance would be appreciated.

Re: Reflecting on the Ace 90

I am one of the thread followers that is interested in the history of the ace 90. One of the things that was in my fathers hobby shop was a gas tank that was formed out of a piece of wood. It was in the era of the Hodaka prototype. It was there for several months before it disappeared to most likely...

I have showed my ace 90 at Hodaka Days several times. I am sure you have seen it there. It has numerous Yamagouchi parts that I am sure are left overs from the Yamagouchi factory.

Re: Ace 90 - Blank Side Covers???

The early ace 90 had a number of parts that were left over from the Yamagouchi factory. The part that comes to mind is the handlebars. As an educated guess, fifty per cent of my ace 90 came with Yamagouchi parts. Then there is the rear fenders. There were one piece and two piece rear fenders.

Not so long ago, you did a post on a carburetor mod. May I assume that it is on this bike as someone else was going to do the work. How did it turn out? I have a 24 mm on the bench right now. If the mod worked well for you, would like to give it a try!

Re: Model 94 vibration

I have owned my model 94 Wombat for many years. Back in the day when I rode it regularly, it had no vibration. Even though my motor didn't vibrate, I came across a bracket that Pabatco brought out to solve the vibration problem and bolted it on my bike. Could be all you need to do is to order up a P...

Re: Front Fork Oil

I am a trail rider. Listened to a friend of mine and converted from twenty weight oil to seven weight. Gives me a more fork action and smooths out the ride. I like the ride and have thanked him for the suggestion. As far as brand, I buy whatever is cheapest as I think all brands are all about the sa...

Re: Help Storing Bikes

I fill the empty (steel) gas tank with diesel. The gas tank will not rust and the diesel does not evaporate. I use ATF in the transmission. I leave it in the base.

Re: Need Some Diagnostic Logic

Your post had good information. I am one of those people that live at the 1,000 feet in Eastern Washington State. Over the years I have listened to racers going to other locals and talking about rejetting their carburetors. Seemed a little silly to me at the time but so true. We have the inverse pro...

Re: Steen and Alsport Steen owners

I own one Steen but it has cerini forks. Primarily all the photos have leading link forks. Does anyone have some history of these bikes such as when they first came out, when the switch was from earl's to cerini's forks and when they ceased production? When my bike was new, it was white in color.

We are sixty days away from Hodaka Days. Bring it to Hodaka Days. If no one takes of your hands, I will take it home. I have a trail whale motor that will bolt in the frame.

I would also vote for the stock tank. It is a two gallon tank as compared with a two and 3/4 gallon tank. The two gallon tank may be a little harder to find. Thinking the chrome tank dirt squirt also used the two gallon tank.

Re: My first Hodie

I have a Thunderdog that I have restored. I tinkered with selling it with no takers. If the number of 1,800 manufactured is a good number, it may be best to hang onto it even if it is a 250 that weighs as much as a tank and when it gets hot, bogs down and stops.

Re: new type of control shaft clip

I am not sure that I am answering your question but here goes. My 03 Wombat motor was making strange sounds and found it needed a lower crank bearing. At that time anyway, all parts were available to rebuild the crank. Never regretted the decision and bike runs great. It again completed the Hodaka D...
