Re: Repairing Kickstand Mount???

If possible, try to grind all the way through the crack so when you weld it,s 100% weld with no left under the weld. If you can get to it you after welding you could grind the other side to your weld and weld it to ensure it,s 100%. A cut off wheel on a dremmel tool works good for veeing out small cr...

Re: Ace trials project finished !

Okay, thanks Matt. That does sound a lot better than the two can deal and trying to ensure equal parts. Here is something you may find funny. I said that it might need lower gearing because I snicked it into first gear and did some figure eights. Can you guess what I forgot about ? The Ace shift patt...

Re: Ace trials project finished !

Thanks Matt, I was thinking about trying that or Red Coat. I have used Caswell on my fiberglass tanks with varying degrees of success, but I think that it does go back to prep, like you said about following the directions to a tee. Not sure what a blister pack is but I will look for that. Thanks to al...

Re: Ace trials project finished !

Just a small update. I had time to do two heat cycles today and it seems to run great. I couldn’t help myself and on the second one I snicked it into first and did a couple figure eights in the yard to see how the clutch worked. The clutch works really well so thank you to the clutch blue printing a...

Re: Ace trials project finished !

Thanks Dale,I will give an update after I get a chance to ride a few sections. I,m sure it will need much fine tuning. Thanks Matt, the pipe started out as an Ace 90 pipe from Bruce. I wanted to copy what guys did back in the day and tuck it in more while adding a longer header pipe. It looks okay f...

Ace trials project finished !

I really happy to finally have this pretty much done. Why ? So I can finally get out and ride it ! I can already tell that I,m going to need two of these. It,s so light and easy to handle that I think it will be more fun and easy on my somewhat aging body so I,m going to need a cross country version...

Re: Ace 100 trans oil amount

Also,I got my transmission oil amount on page 70 in the workshop manual where it says 1-1/4 pints is 590cc. Never thought to look in the back (duh) under “capacities” where it says 1-1/4 pints is 581cc.

Re: Ace 100 trans oil amount

I got looking at pictures after your post MTrat and I think you,re correct because the Ace dipsticks have a white plastic knob and the Wombat and later models are black. So I dug out my Wombat motor that is apart in boxes and it has a shorter, white plastic stick lol. I know what you are probably thi...

Re: Ace 100 trans oil amount

Okay,I will stick with the 1-1/4 pints like my manual also states and not worry about the stick reading. I appreciate the answers/help to what was probably a somewhat silly question. The little Ace trials project is finally just about finished and I just don,t want to screw it up now lol. I should g...

Ace 100 trans oil amount

First time filling it after a rebuild and I started off with 500cc and checked with dip stick to see where it was at. It is about 1/2 inch above the full mark. The workshop manual says 590cc so according to that it should be a bit low,not over full. So my question, is 590cc the correct amount ? I,m ...

I like it as is. I would maybe give it a satin clear coat or maybe just a good wipe down with some WD every once in a while.

Re: Dismantling ace 100 fork

If you haven,t already, try it with the fork spring in and fork cap tight to put pressure on the damper with maybe even an extra spacer on top of the spring for more pre load. If you have an impact use that to give it a quick spin. If that fails you could try a long wooden down rod to push down on th...

It would be kind of cool to have it look like that, but be in mechanical tip top shape so when you drove into an event/race people would think “ oh my” until you fired it up and it ran like a loud Swiss watch.

Is it necessary to use a silicone sealant in between the mag cover and inner foot change cover and then for sealing the whole assembly to the cases ?

Re: Road Toad fork oil amount

Thanks Ed. I was trying to do it as explained in your resonator article, with the springs in and a marked dowel rod. The problem is that with 6oz of oil in each fork the oil level is not above the cylinder so it won’t give a reading/wetting on the dowel rod. Sorry, that is how I should have explained ...

Thanks Victor,I will start with 6oz and go from there. I mixed 2oz of nd 30w with 4 oz ATF per leg so there may be a lot of trial and error to get it suitable.

Road Toad fork oil amount

I have the later style forks as found on on the 98,99,01 and 02 models for my Ace trials project. I have 6oz written down for oil amount per leg and that is what I put in. With springs out and the forks bottomed out the oil level is about 7 1/4” from the top of the tube. With the forks fully extende...
