Ace 100 fuel oil ratio

I,m starting out with a fresh engine and stock jetting at about 840 elavation. Should I run it as the book says at 16:1 for maybe a tank full and then go to the 20:1 ? I won,t be out on the road and will mainly be doing light trials and trail riding. Should I start with the needle in the forth notch...

Re: Oil injection - Love it or leave it?

Not really an opinion but I guess more of an observation leaning towards oil injection. I read an old article on oil injection on the first Can Am motorcycles and according to the factory testing, the motors lasted far longer with oil injection vs premix do to a constant correct amount of oil and jet...

Re: Thunderdog Project

If you are a Hodaka Club member there are a few past articles on TD,s being set up for cc racing. If you are not a member it,s worth the 24.00 for access to all those past Resonators,a lot of good reading and a wealth of tech info. Here is one from there that was set up real nice for Cross country.

Fork set up for trials ATF ?

I was going to order some 20 wt fork oil for a cross country set up and just wondered if ATF will work for a trials set up or if I need some 5 or 7 wt also. I use ATF in my Bul but not sure if it is okay in the Hodaka forks.

Re: Ace100 leak down test

Just a quick update. I haven,t had much time to work on it due to other duties, but I was able to lap the head and do one leak down test which it passed.
No more leaking at the head gasket so a big thank you to all for the help.

Re: Ace100 leak down test

You were right thrown,it did not pass the rock test and checking it with a machinist straight edge shows it,s not too flat. For grins I also snugged back on the cylinder and put a bore flash light in the spark plug hole which also revealed not a very flat surface. Pretty disheartened at this point w...

Re: Ace100 leak down test

Thanks thrownchain. I did chase the cylinder studs and nuts and made sure the nuts threaded all the way down easily. I am using soapy water and I just came in from trying the copper head gasket. It still looked like new,but I still have a leak there. I,m now thinking that your call on the mating sur...

Re: Ace100 leak down test

Small update. I was able to re- break away from the kitchen remodeling job. I think my wife felt bad or maybe could just tell that my mind was else where. I pulled the top end back off to see how every thing looked. Only thing that I could see was a very small offset in the front of the cases where ...

Ace100 leak down test

Fail !! Really bummed, but I am glad that I checked. I don,t know if I would have had it not been from the urging of others on here in various post. It,s hard to tell if it,s the top of the cases or the base gasket, but I,m leaning towards the center case right at the top. I have a couple of questions...

Re: tire confusion

You probably already know this, but the Squirt swing arm is an inch shorter than the Wombat arm so that could create clearance troubles. Also, not all 4.00 tires are the same exact width so the Maxxis could be one of those that,s a bit wider. What all was involved with getting the Squirt swing arm to ...

Re: Clutch screws

Thanks for the compliments. I will put something together and send it to you Bob,but it you will probably have to tweak it because writing and presentation are not one of my strong points. Thrownchain,I think you are right about the screws. I took my wombat clutch apart to see if I could use that ca...

Re: Clutch screws

Thank you both for the help/advice. I did get them out using a new screw driver. I also made a jig of sorts that the exposed bolt ends went into to keep it from trying to turn and making it easier to really push down and turn. Ed,I also bought one of these last week after reading one of your past re...

Clutch screws

I want to take my clutch assembly apart on the Ace for inspection and blue printing. Other than a better screw driver than I currently own,is there a trick to getting the seven screws loose ? They are pretty darn tight and even my “best” screw driver cannot get them to budge without starting to slip.

Just one more name to through in the ring for more options would be Danny Cooke. If you go to the archives page and look for the post titled New Combat Wombat build you can see his work. Like all the others mentioned it is top notch. Like Geary said, whoever you choose from the above mentioned will b...

Re: Main Shaft C Ring Tool???

I talked to Terry about it yesterday to give him a heads up on this discussion and to see if he still had any. He said he would get in contact with Danny. I,m going to leave it to them on how, where and when they can be purchased if we get enough orders. I will say that he is a super nice guy and too...
