Re: Points

When I pull the flywheel to change or adjust my points I all so put a little
grease on the crank shaft where the flywheel rides. It makes it much easer
to remove the flywheel next time.

Re: HD 2014 Report Anybody?

Thanks Ed.. That is the way the tie should have been broken, first dab is the loser. Jim rightfully beat the
old man, that is better than getting beat by an old man. It's all in fun and I hope we go at it again next year.

Re: HD 2014 Report Anybody?

It was great, I got to talk to some very old friends and some not so old. Also got to make some new friends.
I also would like to know the out come of the trials. We had a good turn out of riders and a lot of great people
there cheering every on.

Re: Hodaka Days parking

I will ride the INT class, I have only rode one event this year and will not get any time on the bike
before Hodaka Days. I have taken up trap shooting and that seems to take up most of my time now.
see you there.

Re: Leading axle forks

I have used them on my Hodaka trials bikes for years but I am with Ed, change the triple trees. I use the forks from 1975-79 ds175, they are 32mm. The triple trees will fit on the Hodaka with just a little work and they are much better built. Just remember the forks from a 1985 bike are not vintage ...

Re: No Spark

Ed, the rust would not cause the no spark problem. The ground is in the plug, but I would clean around the bolt holes so you have a good ground to the frame at that point.

Re: Trials Bike Question

You are right about good trials tires but the front tires start around $100 and the back is more. I have not seen much of a choice in tire sizes in the good modern radial tires, 2.75-21 and 4.00-18 . Michelin does make a lite trials tire, you save a few grams and they cost more. I could not tell any...

Re: Trials Bike Question

Bruce, most of the real trials tires used on the Hodaka's and modern trials bikes are Michelin, Dunlop and a few use IRC. I would say these are the main brands tires. I have used both the mich and Dunlop, at my ability I can't tell much difference but the Dunlop has stronger side walls and that mean...

Re: Cable stop for left side front brake

I may have miss spoke you can leave the brake backing plate on the right side but move the braking arm to the front. You can bolt or weld the cable stop to the brake plate arm that is bolted to the forks.

Re: Trials Bike Question

The tires are the same for nov or experts. 2.75x21 inch front and 4x18 inch rear. As far as brand is best, that is like asking witch is best ford or dodge. Good tires cost money from $75 to +200 per tire. If you stay with the top 3 makers you can't go wrong but if you try to go cheap that is just wh...

Re: Trials Bike Question

Frame jig? Just cut the main frame back bone where it is welded to the loop just below the seat area. The tube is most likely rusted on the inside a bunch. Now heat the two down tubes just below the steering head, when hot grab the back bone where you cut it and lift till you get 24-25 degrees. Cut ...

Re: Trials Bike Question

The 4.00 x 18 tire will fit the stock wombat swing arm. The only add gussets I have added was under the seat area, like the super combat frame. I would add a picture of my trials bike but I don't have a clue. Bob or Ed, Help.

Re: Trials Bike Question

I guess my first post did not get posted so here we go again. I have built trials bikes using the ace, wombat and toad frames. I would use the wombat frame, it gives you more room to ride than the ace frame. I would not use the toad frame again it seems nothing is in the right place when I modified ...

Re: ACE 90 or 100 TT style bikes

While you at it, remove all the extra tabs and any other metal on the frame that is not needed. Move the pegs back and weld them, on this will save a few pounds. Also if you are really are going to race it add a new steering head on the front and at least one inch to the swing arm. If you use the te...

Re: ACE 90 or 100 TT style bikes

Andy, I ran 3.25 tires on my 100cc Flat tracker but only on tracks smaller than 1/8 mile. On the bigger tracks I ran 3.00 K-70. I ran mostly 17 inch wheels but on really rough tracks I would go up to 18 inch. The 18 inch wheel and tire are heaver but they do roll better in the turn on a rough track....

Re: Hodaka trials bike?

It looks to be from the late 60's maybe early 70's. It is old school. It does look to have a Cotton tank on it, but one of two that Hodaka made, I don't think so. It does look like they built it using some of the some of the ideas from a Hodaka Trials building paper work. Pabatco made 5 prototype bu...

Did Harry ever own his own Hodaka? I know all the bikes that came through his shop
that he worked on he took part ownership in. I know he told me to treat my shorttracker
like he owned it.

Richard, I'm not sure the gear ratio has much to do with it loading up. I think a little stronger right hand and hang on, that will clear it out.
