Re: Oz Ace 100 - gear issue.
I've finally got my new control shaft and fitted everything back together and had the engine running. it selects gears with the engine off by rocking it forwards to jog the gears and gear selector BUT - I cant get it into gear with the engine running as it seems that the clutch is not disengaging. I...

Re: R/H oil seal
Would the ‘wrong’ direction of the seal also prevent gear/clutch oil being sucked into the crankcase during the low pressure cycle?

Re: Market for seat pans?
I would have said yes 4 months ago. I had to have at least half of my pan replaced in small sections. Very time consuming bending the bits and cleaning up the welds. I would have preferred to buy a replacement. There may be few takers now but there will always be a steady market if they are available.

Re: ace 100 project
No powder coat on head or cylinder. It would retain the heat until it started to blister or lift from the heat. Heat proof engine paint on the cylinder is ok and aqua blasting the head is good as it seals the alloy pores so oil and grease won’t stain it.

Re: rear axel bearings
Another trick I picked up from doing the wheel bearings on my MZ is to file or grind two slots opposite each other on one end of the spacer. Next time you do the bearings there is a spot to locate the drift. Put the slotted end on the bearing side with less distance to press it out. After it is drif...

Re: Oz Ace 100 - gear issue.
Well, I,ve managed to leave the primary gear on and remove the wire circlip (snap ring) through a hole in the gear and slid everything out through the sprocket centre. Ends of both springs are flared and the ball receiver has been hammered and no longer has a groove for the balls. Worst though is th...

Oz Ace 100 - gear issue.
Hi All, A year ago I bought my dilapidated Ace 100 at a Swapmeet. I finished the rebuild a week before this year's Swapmeet and took it back to display it. This is the result. IMG_0297.jpg I'm quite happy with that BUT - it wasn't running at the time (didn't have enough time). Since then i've sorted...

Re: new owner, need advice
I've just finished a close to con cours rebuild of my 1968 Ace 100. Given the amount of chrome and expense of parts, they are unbelievably expensive to rebuild unless that's what you've set your heart on. If you want a regular ride then new seat foam and cover plus reliable engine is the way to go c...

Sika make a product called Sikaflex. It is a silicon/adhesive. Used extensively in marine industry. Better than any straight silicon product.

Re: Clutch Curiosity
Yes, Honda c90 and all derivatives have a crank mounted clutch. I'm restoring one at the moment. My MZ 250/2 ES has as well. Very similar engine to the CZ and Jawa. It makes for a slow gearchange as you wait for the motor to spin down on the up change.

Roger,
I've followed some of your advice from earlier posts to wire my Ace100 with emergency switch. I've also included an AC regulator but to the yellow wiring that goes to the emergency switch. Should I change it to the green wire?

I understand what Zeek is on about. I have done battle trying to register a Heinkel and a Peugeot moped. The problem begins if you don't have any idea of the previous registration number. Bikes that are imported nowadays must have a certificate of approval to import from the Federal Government and u...

Re: New Hodaka in Oz
Hi Zeek I remember seeing an article online with a breakdown of worldwide sales for Hodakas and Australia was a large part of the export market. Oddly enough there were also some sold in one small country in Africa as well. I just tried to find it again and couldn't find it. Maybe someone else knows...

Re: New Hodaka in Oz
Hi Thunderdog,
I had it done at Delway Brass in Edwardstown, Adelaide. It took a while but it's the best chrome tank my mates have seen and they're into vintage bikes with chrome panels. I'm hoping to have the front rim and headlight rim back soon to finish it.

Wayne,
I'm in Adelaide as well. I'm aiming to get the bike finished by the Balhannah swap meet where I bought it last year. I'll have it on display up there. Sort of a before and after thing.

Not in Australia. Although some were imported here, they are quite rare. I'm in the classic/vintage bike scene and haven't seen one on the road or trail since the 70s. We might get 4 or 5 on eBay per year if we're lucky.

I'm in a similar situation. My 1968 Ace doesn't have the insert at all. Would anyone have a drawing of what the tube inside looks like so I can fabricate one?

Re: wheel bearing removal
Not sure if it's the same as my 1968 Ace 100 which has a spacer tube between the bearings. The idea is to try and push the tube off centre and use a suitable drift to knock a bearing out. Problem is that there isn't much surface area to start with. Try to knock out the bearing with the shortest dist...

Re: Brass petcock refurbishment
I've recently pulled mine apart. They are very simple. Basically there is a tapered hole in the brass body and the tap is a tapered plug which matches the hole. The nut draws the taper into the hole to give an interference (therefore theoretical leak free) fit. I used fine household cleaner to lap t...

Ace 100 headlight rim
I'm restoring a 1968 100 Ace and have found a problem with the headlight rim. The original rim was quite rusty so I bought a NOS rim which looks the same, same profile, fits the shell correctly and has the same lug for screw on the bottom. However, when I put the headlight in position, the rim will ...

Thanks Rich. It's all gone together very easily. Piston rings compressed with 50 mm PVC pipe slit down the side and a zip tie.
