Super Brat Project Update
Ace 100B+ with title, barn find. Last of the Aces, these are cool bikes. Seems to be mostly here, part-wise. My plan is to build a tagged version to ride to town, the long way. Sleeper version should you tangle with any stock ones on the trail. Mods of the day including Model 93 or maybe this Webco ...

Have I Missed Anything?
Checking in. Lost my password in a server change is one excuse. Finally got that among others figured out. Where was I? Needed to check on The Old Man and the Gang. Plenty of new projects going on to keep Max out of bars, at least in the daytime as Eweleen sez. Just kiddin'. Did find a pile of olde ...

Checking in.
Just Max, haven't stopped by lately. I see Clarence has gotten himself into another fine mess trying to take anvils apart. As for us, we've been locked down in the Good Woods for the duration. All well here, plenty of Hodaka projects in a row. Not a bad life although we do miss our friends, six of t...

Re: old man going north
A knock on the door yesterday. I'm looking through the peep-hole. Blue eyes. Gotta be the Old Man although his hair seems to have grown and is a fright. Notta chance that I'm opening the door during the Apocalypse. No telling where he's been. Between my 2-stroke ears, a door and two masks, we both c...

Re: I need a kit to make cables
Something I'm in the market for. My "2 the Max" speed/roadracer project has clip-on bars. I have three new Hodaka cables that I was going to shorten. Something I've been avoiding, ha ha. Maybe it's time to consider custom cables or kits. Thanks for reminding me Larry! Max

Lengthening Swing Arms
Some discussion lately. Resonator article, Longing for Swing Arms. Volume 2, number 20, by yours truly, whoever that is. My first Hodaka Ace 90 was too short after doubling the HP. Light front and way quick handling, cured, or at least helped, by 2" swing arm extension. Ace 100 swing arm here, ...

Re: Busiest (or longest retired) Members
What? Third? On the podium but third is just one step from losing and two steps from winning. Not the position one would hope for but better than nought or DNF. OK, I have been a bit slack lately and Victor often has four posts on the same subject, probably just to run up the score. Ed is the techni...

Re: old man going north
No frames for The Old Man to paint this Spring on his way North. I did have a swing arm ready and left it in the Hodaka shed for him to find. He does have a key after that Raccoon problem. On with the story. I did miss the part where he shoots the arrows through the swing arm with the Osage Orange w...

Re: Reed and Respond
High mileage reeds can even wear into the reed block. Good to look at all this stuff occasionally. Next question, who sells reeds?

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Update picture of the project after some serious chrome polishing. Wow. I'd forgotten the memories of un-crating a pair of new Hodakas with red frames and chrome tanks shining within! Deja vu thing! Maxie

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Quick solution for a Kansas law that motorcycles must have a running headlight at all times. I can't picture any night trail rides but this should make everyone happy at the Motor Vehicle department. Still a dirt bike and does add a sassy element. Cool actually! This assembly was mounted in five min...

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Good question Matt and I have no answer. WD-40 seems to work with fine steel wool. One of my photographic assignments of the past was a week with a Top Fuel Dragster. One of the maintenance items was wiping down the bare metal frame each day with WD-40. Paint wasn't allowed on the chassis for fear i...

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Exhaust time for the project. Dual purpose and I'll go with the stock B+ flamethrower which it actually does throw flames during the de-carbonization process. What fun! Looks like some cracks in the rear bracket and pipe that's going to require welding. Wire brush on the bench grinder does make for ...

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Looking like a motorcycle now Maxie! Is it leaning against something or is the kickstand down? I can’t see it. :ugeek: Victor Kickstand picture for you Victor. Yes it's on its new stand. Typical restoration story. Covered in the black stuff at the top and bent in two planes. Stripped rusty bolt sei...

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Rolling chassis on the Maximum B+/plus. Even stands on its own. Always a milestone. Rebuilt forks and the best I could do on the rust infected fork tubes. Kinda acceptable is the word. Just me I suppose. You do have to look close. Chrome stuff is the big weakness on these projects at least for show....

Re: What's The Secret . . .
Larry, After hundreds of ring installations, I can't ever recall breaking a new ring. Old rings have been through a lot in their life from heat cycles and forces of making power. Easy does it, I think you will be alright! Maxie

I'm with Ed. Covering bare metal with a layer black paint is a different story and experiment. I'm also with Victor. Black paint probably disperses heat better than white paint. Science. Luvit. Maxie

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Update on the project. A lot more fun when most of the years of crud has been removed and assembly begins with both new and refurbished parts. Like a big Hodaka kit now. Still sorting through stuff for steps to come. I'm approaching the roller stage which is good. Not a full time project but I do tr...

Re: Maximum B+ Project!
Standard but always exciting part of the restoration process; paint. The step things began to be bolted on rather than removed. The resurrection is underway! Great day in Kansas yesterday. Calm and 70F. Weird, but time to do this outdoor event that could have been weeks away. My that paint is red!! ...

Re: old man going north
Looks like the Old Man has been here today. He always shows up the first day in the year when the temperature gets above seventy knowing I'll have a frame to paint. I did put the apparatus out a few days ago and put the frame in the Hodaka shed. I went out after my nap today and he had completed job...
