Re: Duct Tape

Duck (Duct) Tape, who knew? A little history... :ugeek: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape#History_and_etymology I did. The discussion of duct tape as opposed to Duck tape is correct. Whether invented for the purpose or not, it's use as a duct sealant in HVAC venting was its most prevalent use...

Re: Cylinder Work?

The cylinder mods you speak of will restore the cylinder to use, but whether it is more powerful than what you have may be a matter of small degrees unless you convert to reed. That one change alone will make a world of difference in response and pulling ability. The 95 porting isn't all that radica...

They look like Super a Combat shocks to me, and it would appear that the reservoir is on the bottom.

Inverted or not, it looks like a showroom new bike. Nice work Vic.

Re: 98 Super Rat almost all there - Stator advice

Greetings Couldn't jakethesnake get his second 98 running with a stator and point system from a model 99? I think that those parts would be be easier to find and less pricey. Tom I believe so. Someone who has tried it may say with more authority, but really, I don't see why not. I think the crank e...

The article above was posted by you Arizona....so do you believe it or not? If you are referring to the Klemm article, I offered it as a reading source, as opposed to posting the text verbatim and taking up someone else's megabytes unnecessarily. I don't have to believe it to post it, as it is, obv...

Re: Time to talk about oil gas mix and velocity.

One last thought: the two strokes we use are loop scavenged. They rely on several things simultaneously to keep as much fresh charge as possible in the combustion chamber every cycle, while expelling as much combustion gas as possible every cycle. These include things such as port timing and transfe...

Re: Time to talk about oil gas mix and velocity.

Max, I agree with you. If all of the engines lubrication occurred as condensate in the crankcase and had to migrate upward from there, it would eventually enter the combustion chamber as a condensate not much different from the oil in the bottle before mixing with fuel. At that concentration, and in...

Re: 98 Super Rat almost all there - Stator advice

I was over-emphasizing a point. Whether the exact same parts as used by Hodaka for the 97 and 98 were also used by another manufacturer, I have no idea. So many things need to be the same: diameter and taper of the crank mount, adjustable bracket that bolts to the Hodaka without butchering something...

STOP WHINING about how much it costs to have fun with your hobby. I compete with a herding dog, an Aussie. Training: $3,500+ over the past four years; annual competition fees: $5,000+/year; transportation around the country: $5,000+/year; vet bills: $1,000/year+. Probably missed something. Or, how a...

Re: mechanic

If nothing else, the finger ports shown in the left hand side of the drawing would cause a flow of fuel oil mix from crankcase to combustion chamber through the wrist pin area rather than around the skirt. This may boost transfer, I assume it does, but without a bench to test it, only a seat of the ...

Re: I was given a beautiful 72 wombat

The saddle design on the Hodaka tank, like any other that straddles the backbone, will not draw fuel from the opposite side. Reserve? You could use it that way, but if you have only one petcock, you have to stop, lay the bike over to transfer fuel, then go on. Hence, two petcocks. I always bridged t...

Re: I was given a beautiful 72 wombat

Starts, idles, revs, dies is fuel starvation. For some reason fuel is passing to the carb but at only a very slow rate, which will fill the bowl but not offer adequate supply for running. Peacock, fuel lines, filter if it has one (and if it doesn't, out one on) then passages through carb to float ne...

Re: Gear oil

30W non-detergent motor oil, which is just about impossible to find anyway, has the same relative viscosity as 80W gear oil. The numeric value for viscosity is not constant between applications of oil. So anything in a 75 or 80W gear lube is going to work fine.

Re: model 98 Super Rat

Just a suggestion, assuming it has not already been done: Most of the port timing in the various specs is expressed as degrees, which is fine and is correct from an engineers perspective. However, most of us aren't engineers and even fewer have a degree wheel and the time to verify porting by this m...

Is the early road toad an alumaferic design? I suspect they both have a bridge but don't quote me. From the photos, the road toad had a black cylinder with silver fin edges but the rat was all black. Not much of a clue this far after production. The one certain way to tell would be to measure the ex...

The power boost additive may help mitigate separation, but can't eliminate it. Because of castor oils molecular composition, it can not be made to dissolve into solution in gasoline, or for that matter, any other fuel far as I know. I believe bean oil, mixed into gasoline, is in suspension. It tends...

Does the bonding material remain flexible once cured or become rigid? You mentioned that it was sandable, but I am curious about its ability to withstand vibration and flexure over time.
