Re: new owner, need advice

The brass can be lapped and might be made to be leakproof. No guarantees. I'd save the brass ones for "vintage use" and get the new potmetal ones for daily use. I'm saving the brass ones for use with my pristine show tank.

Re: Toaster tank rescue

Actually, from about 10 feet away (and thus, from the spectator area) , it looks like a chrome tank. Exactly. In scale modelling (airplanes, for example) there is a term called "stand-off scale", where standing several feet off, the plane looks good. But the closer you get, the more you n...

Re: Toaster tank rescue

Looks really good, it has the chrome-like sheen you expect. The close-in orange-peel might be might be a byproduct of the painting process or the "firing" process (not dissing your painter). It's not bad, there are only so many perfect, rechromable Chrome Tanks left in this Universe and th...

I'd gotten sidetracked and haven't been following the surgery. Good news on the success of the knee replacement.

Very good ideas.

Added: The frame tubes are 22.5mm (0.89") in diameter. They will need 3/4"-7/8" diam clips.

Re: Bash plate fitting

Clips like those are what I was thinking about, but was considering blacksmithery of heavier strap. Those conduit straps will work perfectly.

Thx!

Bash plate fitting

I picked up a Hodaka bash plate for my Wombat 94 at Barber's this weekend (thanks Mike!) and need to attach it. The model 94 does not have the welded-in mounting tabs that the newer models do. I'm thinking of some sort of curved clips to fit over the frame tubes or angle brackets that fit between th...

Re: Forum Changes Explained!

I tend to side with Victor on the sale of parts. And there need to be guidelines so it won't become a circus. Hodaka Club member and no dealers. "Dealer" being someone who buys and sells parts on a too-regular basis. Even to the point of buying, then selling, the same part. And parts buyin...

Re: Super Rat 93 Cylinder Head Repairable??

Timeserts don't use a "regular" tap, but they don't use a custom tap. It's a certain size/fit grade that is available. I'll look it up later. Timeserts have a special insert that is used to repair a stripped helicoil. It's got a thicker wall and is called the "Bigsert". Used to b...

Re: front wheel seals

And maybe the sealed/prelubed bearings won't last 100K, but a quality sealed brng can be gotten with pocketchange and replaced very easily. It's a win-win-win situation.

The original Classifieds under SH was for complete bikes only and no loose parts. Is the sale of parts now allowed by the new management?

Re: The 2 the Max Project

It is not too early to be evaluating instrument placement. It looks do-able, with room for tweaking. On the Wombat I fitted a Preston Petty front number plate around the stock headlight with intention of it working as a wind deflector to keep the wind blast out of my eyes. Not quite tall enough, but...

Re: RT wiring!

Good direction to work in, Clarence.
When I started on mine a couple of years ago, the wiring was complete, patched and basically hopeless. So I got an enlarged wiring schematic and built my own harness. The easy to read, markable copy was a help.

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair

You're usually able to see where the seal lips have contacted the sealing surface. If the seal marks are not visible, the seal contact can be found by measurement or temp reassembly. But simply placing the flange down on that bottom stepshould be OK. Google this repair sleeve and there should be mor...

Seal surface sleeves! Haven't seen or thought of those in years. They can work very well. What grade of Loctite do you use? We used to use Loctite Green, sleeve mount.

Re: Super Rat 93 Cylinder Head Repairable??

New is, what, $150+ and used is under $100. Not bad, but not cheap.

Depends on your machinist capability. Repair is do-able but parts are scarce. If you get new/used, fine but do save the old one for possible future repair.

Re: The 2 the Max Project

I like the steering damper. The other alternative is on the upper tripple with the rod forward and the eye attached to the upper frame. Do-able because the tank is small and set back. Another alt. is "conventional" with the damper behind the upper tripple and perpendicular to the upper fra...
