Re: Hodaka flat tracker

Please let me know if there is any interest in what I find on this bike as I tear into it. I guess I am excited and curious to see what is done to the motor. I do not want to bore and take up space if no one is interested in the mods on the Larry Powell bike. I did take the shifter cover off and loo...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

Ok I texted the guy I bought the flat tracker from to get the number off the battery to get one and see how it runs. The number he gave me is for a 12 volt modern AGM battery. I think the tech tips recomend a 6 volt battery and in fact say you can use the stock battery. This battery box is bigger th...

Re: control shaft

That makes sense now. Does the clip hold the the small tapered shaft from going down into the tool? It will slide way in there it seems.

Re: control shaft

OK I am looking at the special tool for the control shaft snap ring and it has a little tappered fitting inside. What is that used for? I can not see how this works in my little mind I guess. I was thinking the tool had a slight cut away on one side to allow slipping the snap ring in while pushing o...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

The bike showed up today. The engine number is AO386 and the frame is A0391. That is an early 90 by my take on the id chart, It seems to be a 5 speed and the cylinder has 98cc on the base so it must have been modified to accept a Super Rat cylinder and maybe trans. Control shaft springs must be bad ...

Re: control shaft

Thanks guys for the info. So after the snap ring is removed the springs and the ball receiver have to come out the clutch side it seems. I was wondering why as an assembly without removing anything why it would not slide out the sprocket side after emoving the front sprocket and spacer.

control shaft

This may be a dumb question but will the control shaft on ace 90-100 come out the counter shaft sprocket side if you remove the sprocket and spacer and oring. I am thinking the ball receiver might keep it from passing thru that end of the shaft and only come out on the clutch side. It has been a lon...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

I bet the white one could be had for about $400 or so. I really can not afford the second bike and the extra shipping cost. I kind of lucked out because the seller had sold a Cotton to guy in College Station Tx and the shipper is coming by this weekend to get the Cotton. He is giving me a small brea...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

The guy I am buying the bike from knows a little about Larry Powell but not much on the bikes history. He has another one that is a 100cc for sure and looks real close to this bike, same mods and pipe design if any one is interested. He said it was not as clean and only had it running for a short ti...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

Wow sounds like Larry Powell was an inovator in pipe design for sure. I think the frame is a 90cc because the frame tag is above the left shock mount but maybe the early 100's had that also. The cylinder does look like it has a 4 bolt intake like the super rat. The shift cover does not say 100 or 90...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

I am leaning towards keeping it as is also. I have a hard time keeping my hands off things and always looking for ways to improve something. I remembered the guys name that built the bike, Larry Powell. Does that name ring a bell with anyone. Was a Hodaka dealer I heard and quite a tuner and pipe bu...

Re: Hodaka flat tracker

I have the shipping lined up and should have it in a week or so. I wanted to ask some of you what would you do with it. Restore it a little bit, fresh frame paint, seat recover, polish etc. What about the motor, rebuild it or just leave it the way it is. I will most likely never ride it but just dow...

Hodaka flat tracker

Thinking about buying this bike for grins. Was built by some one in California and I cannot remember his name right now. Has many period mods and I think it is a 90cc. Looks to have a total loss ignition, reed valve and Amal carb with a hand built pipe. Trying to work out the shipping from Fresno to...

Is there a diagram to show the order of the springs and the cup washer thingy? Sounds like a good fix Paul, thanks for helping improve things on these great old bikes.

I usually try to find nuetral before I come to a stop and that works ok. But sitting still is a problem.

FINDING NUETRAL

What would make finding nuetral while the engine is running on my ace 90 almost immpossible. The clutch works fine and you can find it with the engine off fairly easy but running in gear I keep going from 1st to 2nd it seems. The bike will roll backwards with the clutch in so it is not dragging.

Re: Ace 90 Shock Upgrade?

I bought some for my 90 off Ebay that look real close to original and they are about 13" eye to eye. I think they are for a Honda trail 90 or ct 70 or some small early Honda.

Re: COMBAT WOMBAT CLUTCH

Not sure but it probably does not have primary style kick start and that is normal. Someone with more knowledge on the Combat Wombat will chime in soon. Most of the early bikes did not have primary kick start ability, you had to find nuetral to start.

Re: removing ethenol from fuel

Here in Dallas Texas not much luck with 0 ethenol fuels. I have been buying c12 vp race fuel but man it is high. I found a local airport selling avgas and I may try that. I could not believe my lawn mower and my ts185 can't stand the 108 octane. The little ace 90 seems to love it and I can let it si...

Re: removing ethenol from fuel

Anyone you avgas in thier bikes. I have heard of guys using it but I have never tried it. My old Suzuki trail bike does not like the c12 vp fuel for some reason. Funny the ace 90 and my old Bultaco don't have an issue with c12. I noticed the compression ratio on the Suzuki is 6.7 to 1 and the ace is...

removing ethenol from fuel

I was looking for an old post that someone had posted about adding water to the fuel and the ethenol would settle out with the water. Does anyone remember the steps to do this and the amount of water to add? How do you pour off the gas after and not get the water ethenol mix to come out with the fue...
