Re: Road Toad third gear failure

I suggested the early model 100 or 125 because the cushioned primary in straight cut is still available at a reasonable price. I am very heavy, 275 with gear, so I always run a cushioned gear to give the tranny a fighting chance, With the interchange parts Hodaka loved to use, it sounds like quite a...

Re: Road Toad third gear failure

You could send your next set of gears out for case hardening but that gets costly. Running to large a rear tire will also put to much stress on that little transmission. Are you dead set on using a primary kick oil injected motor. If you love the handling and size but want more power, a Combat motor...

Re: Rear wheel question?

Correct. I believe all the100s and 125s, (Squirts, Toads and Wombats) with oil injection use the same sprocket flange offset. With the right flange, any of the models rims and hubs should work, but watch your axel spaces. They can and do get mixed up.

Re: Larger Carb

I would check a couple things. Is the current pilot jet plugged. Hold it up to a light. You should be able to see through it. Check the compression. Worn rings will make it hard to start. Old gas. The cheap gas they sell now will go stale in 6 months. I have had it go bad just sitting over the winter.

Re: Two Stroke Oil suggestions...

I took racerclam Richs recommendation and began using Redline at 50 to 1 in all 3 of the highly modified 125 Super Combats we use for motocross. The pistons will have a film on them when you tear the engine down after a race, but it does not foul plugs. It does not burn off the way other oils do, so...

Re: Oil to pinion bushing

Paul has an improved bushing design listed in his store. I use them on my race bikes as I had trouble with this bushing getting so hot it discolored and stuck to the gear. I believe the cross x end goes toward the crank bearing.

Re: Changing sprockets

There is a simple basic formula for sprockets. Smaller front sprocket, lower top speed. Larger front sprocket, greater top speed. Smaller rear sprocket, greater top speed. Larger rear sprocket, lower top speed. Your engine must be in good enough condition to pull a larger front sprocket or smaller r...

Re: 250 SL kickstart stripped

You could consider the dreaded "W" word. Weld it on. I have had over a dozen Hodaka 250s and half had the kicker welded on. I welded one a 250 ED when it stripped the day before an enduro. If the spring is still attached and it will return, you can stick weld them on through the open end o...

Re: Swingarms

The 03 swing arm arrived and was a indeed a direct bolt on to the 97SC frame. I did need to use the distance spacer from the inside of the 97 swing arm to hold the bushings in the right spot. The chain and sprocket were right in line the countershaft sprocket. I did need the longer lower shock bolt ...

Re: Swingarms

Thanks for the info. Looks like a Road Toad sprocket carrier and some older model spacers are all that are needed. I was worried about it even fitting.

Re: Swingarms

Thanks for looking. The 03 swingarm is about an inch and a half longer. You can tell by the extra length of the 03 swingarm tube between the lower shock mount and axle slot. The distance between the swingarm pivot bolt and shock mount are the same, the extra length is after the shock. I have 2 03 wo...

Swingarms

Hey group. I have a reed valve Combat Wombat engine in an 03 frame I use for the non-current motocross class. I have T-DOG rear shocks and forks on it. I love the way it handles the jumps and chop. I have a Super Combat I use in the Vintage Ironman class with T-DOG forks and 14 and a half inch Works...

Re: Brake pedal mod? CW

My cell phone takes 2 D batteries and my camera uses film. I will have to locate a teenager to take and post some pictures. Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

Re: Brake pedal mod? CW

I slice the top edge of an old foot peg off and weld it to the pedal surface. I also weld an adjuster to the pedal arm to lower it. I like to use a Honda CRF brake rod. It goes over both sides of the brake arm rod hole, and is attached with a pin and cotter key. It pulls then from the center of the ...

Re: Too or Not to Do?

As long as you don't chop on the frame, any modifications you do can be undone. If you restore it 100% original, you will find it a nice parade bike, but not practical street or trail bike. Adding forks and disk brake upgrade will probably lead to longer rear shocks. You could add an 03 Wombat cylin...

I found the same problem when I tried to install my new HT3. Problem looks to be with new silencer. I am sure it will be addressed when things return to normal. I have just returned from Hodaka Days and am playing catch up, so Paul is probably swamped.

Re: 250ED shocks

You can rebuild the 250 KYB shocks from a 250 ED. Hodaka Dave did mine for a reasonable price. They are shorter than the 03 or 250sl shock. I have a set of rebuilt 250Ed shocks on my Super Combat and prefer them over the Works shocks on my Combat Wombat. I think the shocks go in this order. 13.5 inc...

Re: Name this bike

If the crank is good, finding the correct Model 03 piston is the cheapest way to go. If the crank is also bad, converting it using a Road Toad rod kit to accept the more common Wombat pistons would be the way to go.
