Re: Stale gas stink

Some will disagree, but I have had good luck with lacquer thinner to remove old gas crud.

Re: Looking for a Rat Tank...

I have a rat tank that developed pinhole leaks in the top of the tunnel. Seems like a weird place. I'm considering an external coating of Red-Kote. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Ceriani 32mm forks on CW?

My experience with the smaller Cerianis was not good in that they were prone to bending under hard use. I liked the lowers and the triple tree.

I have one of the 'boat anchor' carbs. What parts need to be replaced to make it work right?

Re: fuel filter

Inline filters are available which have the intake & outlet at right angles. They can make the setup a bit 'cleaner' from tank to carb.

Re: Shifter mechanism in side cover

The spring (#31) that returns the shift lever can break where it rubs on the case and becomes thin. Plenty of grease and a grease soaked patch of felt can prevent this by reducing wear.

Re: Rat vs Ace Cylinder

Apparently an ACE cylinder can be ported to duplicate the 93 Rat. It can be modified for a reed valve with consideration for the 2 stud vs 4 stud intake port. The old 'Reed Carefully' bulletin applies to both.

No doubt, the best recovery therapy for that hand will eventually be repeated squeezing of the levers on Hodaka handlebars while viewing interesting territory.

I learned a lot of great Hodaka history from Chuck, ps He's the only one in decades I've run into who knows what a Greeves 'blooey pipe' is. Plus, the ice cream socials have been great!

Re: Frank Wheeler's ride to Alaska

I rode a 500 Suzuki solo to Anchorage and back in '76, The ALCAN had 1100 miles of dirt then; 400 miles of mud up and 700 mi of mud back. 4 1/2 days northbound and 3 1/2 back. Nothing as epic as Frank's ride but still a memorable adventure.

After 35 years a science teacher, I just couldn't resist this Will Rogers quote: 'Some people learn by listening, others need to be shown, and some people just have to pee on the electric fence themselves.' No offense intended for anyone.
