I have to admit to being curious too. Information regarding what was found might be useful to other Hodaka folks.

Re: Why is it…..
I'd check compression on a different engine as a way to check the compression gauge, before tearing things down.

Re: flash back
A guy from the Los Angeles based ad-agency came up to Athena to go out into the woods with a large gaggle of Hodaka employees for our annual trail bike, miles-from-the-end-of-the-road, camp out. While on that trip he shot the photos in the ad above. That was a fun trip! More than just a little "...

Re: ODD Ball ??
It looks like a mostly stock Combat Wombat (Frame number indicates Combat Wombat) which has had the frame painted red. Hubs and rims look stock. Ditto for the pipe except for the silencer. Cylinder is alloy with seven fins, so it is a 125. Appears to still be piston port . . . so Combat Wombat. Has ...

Hey! I know that guy crossing the log!
In other news - a couple of posts back . . . the ad with the photo of a cloud of dust. That photo was taken at the Lewiston, Idaho track about the time the Super Combat came out . . . and I'm pretty sure John Dallaire was there.

I can only positively identify the middle three (from L to R). Harry Taylor, Marvin Foster and Adolph Schwarz. Taken on a trail ride up the South Fork of the Walla Walla River sometime in the 1960's.

. . . and this ad photo shows Jim Gentry (wearing the Hodaka hat) and Roger Phillips (on the bike). Both were PABATCO employees. And that might (repeat, might) be Bob Lick in the background on the right. He often helped with pit crew work. His wife worked at PABATCO and he was a pretty quick rider h...

I didn't notice any mono-shocks in the gathering area before the start, but I do have this thought. Whoever that was, and whatever bike he was on . . . I'm sure I'd enjoy riding with him. He observed excellent trail manners at all times, with proper passing etiquette and friendly "Thank you's&q...

I met Mr. Lindell last week at Hodaka Days. I'd sure like to see a photo of the scooter he described. I'll wager that it has one of the promotional stickers which came out of the Advertising/Promotion Dept. with great regularity.

Re: Priming Oil Pump Lines
One of the reasons there is a recommendation to fill the tank with pre-mix, is to assure lubrication by way of premix while bubbles work their way through the oil pump during some easy riding.

Nothing says you have to be fast to "race". The track isn't crowded, so there is a lot of room for the "go fast guys" to pass. I (for one) "race at my own pace" - which is as fast as any human can possibly go (except for those guys who zip by me like I'm tied to a post!...

Re: Toad Clutch Issue
Two suggestions: 1) disconnect the clutch cable from the lever down on the engine and check the free play of the lever. You should have at least 3/32 inch measured at the end of the lever. Strangely, clutch disk wear causes a reduction of freeplay - and increases the likelihood of clutch slipping (w...

Re: Thoughts on replacement pistons for the model 03 Wombat!!!
Take one Model 03 engine, remove crankshaft. Replace crankshaft with Model 99/01/02 crankshaft assembly which has had Model 94/95 connecting rod installed on the crankpin. Bolt engine back together using Model 97 piston/ring (Or Model 94 piston/rings, modified for reed induction.) Use Model 03 crank...

Re: Side stand length
. . . and while that scooter is wedged up to the proper parking angle, a feller could measure how much length needs to be added to the kick stand. Disclosure - some welding required.
