Re: chain adjusters
Ahhh, but they can fail! Several years back, a buddy limped his Wombat to the first rest stop on the Bad Rock ride. His right side chain adjuster was broken. We put the bike on a log, set the axle location and used a set of feeler gauges to fashion spacer ahead of the axle to lock it in place. Good ...

Re: Model 95 Motor Rebuild - Leak Down Test
Yes.
With the clutch cover off you will be able to tell if the leak is from the seal or from the cases not being air tight.

Re: Adding Voltage Regulator
Both.
Two seperate circuits and serve two different purposes. The rectifier is the start of the DC circuitry. The regulator is being added to control the AC side. It connects between the green AC lead and ground. Any voltage peaks above 6 volts get shunted off to ground.

Exhaust pipe plugged up? Remove the insert to see if there is any difference.
Air cleaner condition?
Any carb changes since it last ran?

Re: Key Layout for 02 Road Toad
Well nuts! I obviously didn't follow the link all the way out... I am not aware of any difference in the wiring between the 99 and the 02. They have the same switch part number. I do see that the 02 uses the model 01 Dirt Squirt main wiring harness. And, the Dirt Squirts originally came out with the...

Re: Hodaka tank repair,
I think I have tried every method documented out there. Electrolysis, vinegar/salt solutions, muriatic acid, oxalic acid, Evaporust and have found that the easiest method is also the most effective. It is safe and by far the cheapest. This method is thorough, it will not harm the external chrome (ri...

Ah, I see the third fin now. Dang!
I know that people fix this type of damage but I believe the hardest thing will be finding donor fins that would match.

I don't have answers to your questions. Sorry. But I did want to comment that it appears someone cut the fins to run a high pipe. Is that possible?

Re: voltage regulator
Oscilloscope and an AC voltage generator for a bench test. Just the Oscilloscope if testing on a running motor.
If you have a really good "analog" VOM, reading AC, you can get a pretty good idea that it is working. Digital, not so much.

Re: Help identify this head
You would probably have to cc out the heads...to determine what the volume of the combustion chambers are. Less volume would be a Super Rat head and more volume would be the Road Toad/Dirt Squirt head. Agreed. I plan to CC the two that I have to determine if they are the same. Will go from there...

Re: Help identify this head
Dale is correct in that the head is from a late model 100cc bike, but the Rat and Toad heads are different. The Rat has a higher exhaust port and requires a higher compression head. My guess is that this head is from a Toad. Brian Excellent point Brian. Thanks for chiming in. Now I am as confused a...

Re: Help identify this head
Later model (painted tanks) 100cc. Models with alumiferric cylinders. I think I see evidence of black paint? If so then it is either from a 99 Road Toad or a 98 Supet Rat. I don't know if there is any difference in the milling between these two models. I have one head that is identical except it ha...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
Here's the thing. At least this is how I see it... The folks that do this either 1) learned by trial and error and have failed many times before they figured it out or 2) had someone teach them and then went on to fail until they got it right. I am also thinking that rings, pistons and cylinders wer...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
So you set your ring gap where? Between .006 & .008? I need to check the ring gap in the 93A. I’ll report back when I have it. Is the ring gap more critical with a single ring piston because there is no lower ring? :ugeek: Victor Don't forget the bore measurements and piston clearance. As for t...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
If you do not chamfer the ports the ring can catch and brake. Timing to me is not critical 12 to 15 thousands will work. Measured ring end gap is very important to me I like it on the tight side of spec, looked good will not work. On the old cast iron dykes ring I have never honed the cylinder. The...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
Okay, on the 93B I would use the TDC indicator (when it arrives) to confirm your case marks. You can use a buzz box with it to set your points but I find it just as easy to set the points to a .012 gap. Then start it up and check your firing point with a timing light. The timing light will give you ...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
Victor, Okay, that brings us all up to date on these 2 bikes. I can't keep your projects straight and don't know how you do! I'll first say that the issues have zero to do with them being Super Rats. There has been and continues to be at least one issue with each bike that is a show stopper. T...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
Regarding your compression readings... Do the pistons utilize single dykes rings? If so, I think your bike with 115psi is fine. The one that measures 85 is an issue. Did the dykes ring get installed upside down? The widest part of the ring has to be down. This forces the ring outward under compressi...

Re: Rebuilt Super Rat Compression
Troubleshoot one bike at a time. Have you performed an air leak down test? What does or doesn't it do when you try to start it? Choke on or off? If you are way rich, it won't fire with choke on. Does it have spark? Triple check the point gap. Is it getting fuel? Will it pop with a little fuel introd...

Yes they can be a real challenge to remove! I have had success soaking in penetrating oil then heating it with a heat gun to the point of melting the rubber then using a large socket to knock it out. Use the largest socket that will pass through the nut. I have also been to the point of breaking out...
