Re: '72 Wombat (94) Stopped on me twice

Well over due for an update here. It's been a bit since I've been able to get much time to tinker with the Wombat, until today. After rereading the thread it was clear I didn't have my facts straight. As Roger pointed out, lighting and ignition are two separate systems and the lighting circuit wasn'...

Re: Replacing swingarm bushings

RR, I like the idea of the centering dowel to keep the socket in line. When my kids and I did the SA bearings on their ACE 100 it was a frustrating fight. Thanks for posting the tip, I know I'll use it in the future.

Re: My "shadetree" Fix, feel free to post yours

Of course, Bob. Unfortunately, I didn't take any other photos while I was working on the Wombat. I just sent you an email including the above and the following. I think the only other comment I could add would be that you can increase the diameter in smaller increments by placing the strip(s) of tap...

My "shadetree" Fix, feel free to post yours

Last month I started my '72 Wombat (94) and got a surprise when I pulled the clutch lever in, a whirling and grinding sort of noise emitted from the clutch cover. After some successful searching on this very forum, I found I was in the market for a new clutch bushing. Well, I finally found time this...

Re: Any enthusiasts in the Palm Springs area?

Unfortunately, I just moved from the area, Yucca Valley, to Redding in NorCal. It's nice in PS and I highly recommend the air museum.

Re: '72 Wombat (94) Stopped on me twice

Thanks for the reply Max. I suspected the condenser too, just because of what I've read here on the forum, they seem to be the source of much frustration to Hodakafiles and othe vintage bike folk. I was able to break away for a few minutes and pull the shift cover and the flywheel to take a look, mi...

'72 Wombat (94) Stopped on me twice

Hello All, I recently got myself a second Hodaka (because two is better than one), a '72 Wombat (94). She runs great, has about 800 mi (if the odo's telling the truth) and looks to be original except for the triple trees and bars, even has what I suspect are the original Nitto rubber too. The fella ...

Re: Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

The team and I had some time tonight and decided to clean up the speedo drive we scored off an auction site for almost nothing. The one that came off the Ace wasn't salvageable. A quick dis-assembley and inspection proved all was well. Of course there was the obligatory hunt for a sprung clip or two...

Re: Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

After a quick clean and look-c it was clear that we need new consumables. The forks are worn in a few spots but with the budget going into the red we put our heads together and decided they would work for our purpose. I intended to do a full photo collage of the break down and build up, but we were ...

Re: Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

Well, shifting back to the purpose of the thread. I figured, since I couldn't find much on rebuilding an Ace 90 forks, I'd put our endeavor here for posterities sake. All told, they are relatively simple, as is the Hodaka way, and made it a good experience for my kids and I. So, we finally got the c...

Ddvorak, thanks for the info. I was thinking they were a bit frozen but I wanted to poll the community to see if someone might have a Mcgyver'd solution. Looks like god ol' patience and liquid wrench are gonna win this. AZshorty, thanks for the very useful info I plan on using the atf/acetone trick ...

Re: Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

Thanks all for the help and kind words. Looks like I'm in it for a new gas cap as well, the threads are all buggered now on the old cap. On to new business, the planets finally aligned and the kids and I found some time to get our hands dirty on our hodaka project. I picked up a donor '66 ACE 90 tha...

Re: Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

Viclioce, I wasn't sure if it was the original tank because of the later petcocks on it. The bike came with the small black Hodaka fuel cap, but it doesn't fit. Threads look good on both tank and cap, they seem close in size too, but just doesn't want to go and I don't want to force it for obvious r...

Re: Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

Well, it's been a minute since I updated y'all on progress, unfortunately, there hasn't been much recently. I pulled the magneto/ ignition plate and the frozen clutch and found that the frozen piston was keeping the motor locked. After letting the cylinder soak for a 2 months I still couldn't get th...

Finally got a Hodaka... Though it needs a bit...

Hello all, well I finally got myself a Hodaka. A '68 Ace 100 frame with a frozen motor, it was in my price range. And has paperwork, last reg in '76. Frame # A252**. Engine # P395** - any help on dating this motor would be greatly appreciated. From the looks of it, it spent some time in the desert. ...

TrophyHunter, congrats! I was looking at that same bike but couldn't manage to get the cash and time together, on vacation in Portland until Tuesday and thought if it was still around I'd take it. I think you got some fun times ahead. Did you get it for the asking price or? Either way it seemed like...

Thanks Bob,that's is a good deal but that's my budget. The 03 I was planning on getting was advertised for $375, that's why I jumped at it. OR is a bit far for the time being as well, if I'd have known in late July I would have brought it home with me when I visited my in-laws in Tualatin. Maybe I s...

Well I'm sorry to say the seller left me hanging. I was the first to call and told him I'd take it for his price and pick it up this weekend, he's over 3 hrs away and refuses my calls nor will he return them. I guess a straight deal is to much to ask for these days. So, I guess the search continues ...

INTRO & ADVICE FOR LOOKING AT A '77 WOMBAT (03)

Hello All, This is my first post, so I'll introduce myself. My name is Beven, 32 and I live in Yucca Valley, CA. I got bit bit by the Hodaka bug about a year ago, prior to that I was a staunch Triumph guy with a '66 Bonnie. Although, I have been fiending for an toaster tank model I recently stumbled...
