Art Vs Modern Wiseco Piston

I tried to attach a photo to this post. Piston on the left is Art, Wiseco reproduction piston on the right side. The space in the piston casting for the connecting rod is about 1/4" wider on the Wiseco than on the Art. This lets the top end bearing move left or right where ever it wants. The Ar...

Re: ace 100 carb tuning

I've been through the 20mm Ace mikuni more times that I can count. Many more. If the carb is clean through and through and the standard jetting is installed it works well. The best way to know it's clean through and through is to disassemble everything as shown in the carb's exploded diagram. The di...

Super Rat Top End On Ace 100

I put the entire reed valve super rat "package" on my B+, including the reproduction rat pipe that may still be available. This link got me started in my overall thinking: http://www.strictlyhodaka.com/v/vspfiles/assets/acemx.pdf I followed a lot of this article, but not all. If the link a...

Re: True crankshaft Ace 100

Thanks for that additional information, especially the tip about turning the center in the chuck to assure zero run out. I'd forgotten that one. I also checked the halves between centers and concluded that the "shaft sections" had been ground between centers. Outside faces of the counter w...

Re: True crankshaft Ace 100

Thanks for all the information about crank truing. Just to be sure I understand: Truing between centers by indicating on the bearing surfaces is a practical way to go? (Assume crank centers are OK) Holding one half of the crank in one hand and striking the other half with a brass hammer will pivot o...

True crankshaft Ace 100

What is a reasonable method to true the crank halves once re-assembled? I can press them apart, replace the rod, press them together, put them in a lathe and indicate them between centers or indicate mounted on the crank bearing surfaces. I can measure the distance out-to-out of the two round discs ...

Thanks for the picture and information. What you show is what I have.
I'll put the gear set in and give it a try.

Close ration gear set p/n 201402

I bought this gear set in 2008 because I thought it was unusual and it was reasonably priced. It has the number 91 hand engraved on it. The description on the packing list says: "Close Ratio Gear Set for All Early Hodaka's from the Ace 90 to the 125" I have my Ace 100 engine apart to repla...
