Re: Lost Key

Was the key you found by chance a wombat or ACE 100 B key? A square key?

Re: 69 Ace 100: Getting it started

Ladies and gentlemen. Toaster oven. Toasted it 3 to 4 times for a few minutes and gently worked at it with a paper clip. Well i broke the top ring. But the bottom is good! So, when in doubt, have a toast!

Re: Lost Key

Thanks for the reply. Key can't fit the slot. The ribbed channel on the key slot is on the opposite side that this key's is on. The key hole/slot has a flat side (left) and a channeled side (right) the tumblers are on the lower position (nearest edge of barrel) and all are flexible and functioning. ...

Re: Lost Key

OK, my new Hodaka Ace 100 key does not fit the key hole. Notice the keyhole has a notch on the side of the key that is smooth. What could have happened here? I will have to take this switch out and take it to a lock smith. The keyhole is clear, no broken key in there. Scratching head. Is it possible...

Re: Brass petcock refurbishment

These pictures are great. Nice work to visually lay it out. Now i see what is going on. Is there a grease one can use to help seal as well as last a while with the gas? Or perhaps that is counterintuitive to the soft metal design. :-0

Re: Brass petcock refurbishment

Sounds good. Will try a heat gun on low setting. I assume its ok to use a wrench on the nut to do the turning (?).

Re: Brass petcock refurbishment

Guys, on my 69 Ace 100 tank I have the brass petcocks the right side opens, weeps a tad bit. The reserve side is completely stuck in the off position. The tank has been sloshed with what looks like Red-Kote (its red and rubbery). Before I go twisting things about, I need to know how these operate. I...

Re: Lost Key

Thanks Roger, I just saw this. For some reason I'm not getting notified of updates to the forum. This info may dispel all the mystery. And i was just about to rewire the bike! I can find the Ace 90 wire diagram I think. I'll have a look and then see if there are any changes I should make. I would li...

Re: 69 Ace 100: Getting it started

How'd you loosen the ring with the piston out? I've used Vinegar, ATF 50% with acetone, Penetrating oil, Napa Carb dunk cleaner (the newer eco stuff), metal rescue. Nothing is breaking this crud buildup on the rings. Piston looks pretty good as does the bore so my thinking if these springs can open ...

Re: 69 Ace 100: Getting it started

should i just take the head off and will there be any way to tell? Or will I need to remove the whole barrel? Also will I need new copper gaskets after that? Waiting for the manual to arrive but want to get a jump on this.. Can you soak the piston from the top through the plug hole to help loosen th...

69 Ace 100: Getting it started

Thanks to all who are helping me sort out this non running Ace 100. Figured I'd start a new thread based on "getting it started" UPDATE: Unplugged the black wire from the ignition. So just running on direct to coil. Coil is producing spark. Checked with meter (approx 5.5 or so) and can see...

Re: '69 Ace 100 Kick starter return spring

Thanks guys,
I managed to get that lever all apart. The spring was fine, just bent and not connected to the lever at all. Awesome!. After an hour of wrestling with the slippery cup I managed to get it on there and get the alignment and rubber stand-off all back together. thanks!

'69 Ace 100 Kick starter return spring

Hi group. Another pre weekend post! As some have you have seen, I've been trying to get this Ace 100 started, just to hear it run, before I sink a ton of money in it. I bought it not running and just realized the return spring on the kick is not functioning. How hard is this spring to get to? And is...

Re: Lost Key

I took the ignition away from the frame. Maybe the ignition is supposed to stay grounded while kickstarting? (duh!) There is no connector block that I can see. Maybe a spliced wire job here. And the loose blue wire near the switch was wedged to the frame, I assume touching the bolt in order to creat...

Re: Gas question

I bought the bike not running. Thanks for the oil to gas ration. 3.2 oz per gallon it seems. I will need to drain the oils and grease the shifter on the magneto side, since I had to replace the cover and shift element. What lubes and oil procedures do you guys recommend, along with capacities? I've ...

Gas question

Hi guys, The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. This newly acquired Hodaka Ace has fuel in the tank already. Sort of a bluish color so I assume it has been pre-mixed. Smells ok :-) What is the 2 stroke mix ratio running supreme soCal gas? I usually opt for Chevron around here. Anyone got...
