I suggest you install a kill switch on your automobile or truck since the key is of no use.

Re: Relocating Condenser Part Number
Yes, it did. had to install a "bullet" end in the pigtail, to be inserted in the wiring loom. I had a empty female black wire connector there at the coil because I removed the kill switch and only use the key for the ignition cutoff.

Re: Relocating Condenser Part Number
I installed a Standard IH121 (Ford 8N tractor) condenser on the backbone of my 175 next to the coil. Condenser comes with a nice small bracket. Drilled and tapped for a 5mm X .08 and used a socket head screw. $8.00 at the local auto parts store.

Re: larger countershaft sprockets for the 175/250
Darrell, you are correct that the Honda XL 250, 1972 - 77, will work on the 175/250 SL. Just received my JTF1265.15 (made in Thailand) sprocket, in 15 tooth. So all you 175/250 SL road riders (all 5 of you) can "gear up" for the up coming year. Brought to you by the "Super Secret Hoda...

Re: larger countershaft sprockets for the 175/250
I knew of JT sprockets having the dimensions. Checked your part #. Dimensions are too small, must be for the 100/125 Hodakas. The search goes on.

larger countershaft sprockets for the 175/250
Hodaka only made 12, 13 and 14 tooth sprockets for the 175/250. I wish to try a 15 tooth sprocket and have a brand X 16 tooth sprocket, which I did try. That was a bit too tall gearing. The 16 tooth, I believe is for a Honda application due to the two 6mm threaded holes which are used to lock the sp...

Re: What am I doing wrong?
The 250's have a number of defects in stock form as most of you already know. One area is the air filter. The stock filter has about as much filtering as panty hose. With some modifications, the stock air box can be changed to use a Balwin PA2050 element. The other is just as serious, the lack of en...

Re: ANF ride review
Took the opportunity to ride Rick Mott's reeded Combat Wombat during our ANF ride. With it being geared lower than my piston port Combat, I managed to ride in a higher gear to compare the two engines on actual trial riding. Actually I could not find any difference in performance in the mid range, wh...

I added one on my CW, not sure if it helped at all. Still on there. Also install some rubber fin noise dampeners.

Re: Thunderdog KYB shock springs
I use the ED KYB shocks on my 250SL (with ED swing arm) and my 175. I use the yellow springs and have no trouble. I weigh in at 230 and my riding is on back roads. I am not sure how it would be in serious off road applications since I am allergic to mud.

Ed, I have only had experience with the longer jets. Never seen the shorter one in any Hodaka carbs I have.

Ed, could you briefly explain the two different types of pilot jets? I always assumed there were only one style used.

Cracked Toad cylinder, countershaft splines gone, what is happening to the world. I would try welding, just to see how it holds up, but would only ride uphill from the house.

175 rear tire
As everyone probably knows, the different tire manufactures have different sized tires for the same posted sizes. So therefore, it would be nice to hear from different 175 owners about their off road tires, with info on chain guard clearance, traction etc. I know that there will be less than 600 rep...

The cylinder in question will arrive at the Super Secret Hodaka Research and Meditation Center for the ANF annual ride on September 9th. The personal here will closely examine the specimen and do an analysis on where the proper dispersal of the said part will go, the scrap iron bin, scrap aluminum b...

See if the countershaft control rod still has the circlip on it. After removing the shift cover, see if you can pull and remove the control shaft.

Re: 250SL -ED specialists at Pabatco
The reason I was asking my question, was that back in the day, I requested, from Pabatco, 250ED modifications. I received "enduro" modifications with a side note written by Ed Chesnut with further instructions. I still have these instructions.

Re: Suzuki TS 250 mag coils
I used an early 70's TM 250 head. One has to tap the existing holes and locktite aluminum bolts in it, machine off the ends, temporarily install a template of the Hodaka bolt pattern, drill the head CAREFULLY, positioned upside down on a stand, then rightside up on a stand to CAREFULLY mill the fins...

Re: Suzuki TS 250 mag coils
OK, here is the rest of the story. After jetting the 250SL, the bike was still underpowered. Sterling Caudill found out from Klemm Vintage that the ideal timing for a 2 cycle was 27 degrees BTDC. I adjusted mine for 25 BTDC at full throttle and it really came alive. Idle timing is now 15 degrees BTD...
