Both would help, I am going to finish my testing and probably keep it the way it is. I am concerned about fuel mileage as well as horsepower.

No, it is not, I soldered the Hodie wiring harness on right at the Suzuki coils.

Re: Suzuki TS 250 mag coils
I believe 1969-70 had points, I used somewhere in the early 70's, anywhere between 1972 and 1975, could be even later. Look on e-bay and see If they look like the Hodie mag coils, that is what I did.

Re: Suzuki TS 250 mag coils
Ed, This conversion was just like the one I did on my 175. The article is in a past issue of the Resonator Revisited, with the exception of the battery, I used a Motobatt MB2.5U (replaces a YB2.5). It will fit into the Hodaka battery boot, except it protrudes about 1/4" out from the end of the ...

Suzuki TS 250 mag coils
If anyone is contemplating using early 70's Suzuki TS 250 mag coils in their 250SL, here is what I found. As for the TS250 ignition mag coil, the timing will be advanced a lot if you use the factory stator/case marks. I had to move the stator completely counter clockwise to bring the timing close to...

Re: 175SL vs 250SL
Scott, I can install a boost port in the 250 if the engine needs it, does not take a rocket scientist to do that.

Re: 175SL vs 250SL
Paul, As I stated, I never had a 250 before so therefore with the addition of a Suzuki TM 250 cylinder head, an unknown (maybe off a YZ 125) expansion chamber, FMF silencer and Baldwin air filter, I really don't know what to expect. Running a 170 main jet, seems a bit low, but was running very rich ...

Re: 175SL vs 250SL
Thanks Darrell, this 250 will do that, so will the 175. The 175 has a boost port which must make the difference in performance. Back in 1975 I had a Suzuki TS 250 that would top out at 70mph.

175SL vs 250SL
Is anyone riding both the 175 and 250 on a regular basis, on the road? I am in the process of setting up my 250SL for highway use. As of right now, the 175 seems to run better, especially with the fact that it has always had a serious power increase in the upper RPM scale, if one wanted more power. ...

250 ED ignition timing info
Someone was looking for timing information for their 250 ED. Using a dial depth indicator and a degree wheel, the specs. for a 13 degree advance is .097 BTDC. 15 degree would be .127 BTDC.

250 SL / ED ignition timing
Were there any revised ignition timing specs for the 250 SL/ED since they were introduced? I have the owners manual specs. I need to mark the flywheel/case for timing reasons and not go by the factory "align the stator/case marks". The reason for this is that I replace the stock mag coils ...

Re: How to spoke a road toad?
Before I work on a wheel, I place the wheel (brake side down) on a flat surface. I then measure the distance from the flat surface to the edge of the rim and record that. Next I measure the distance from the brake drum to the out diameter of the rim and record that. When lacing up the wheel, you can...

Lousy cylinder head (one notch thicker than a pancake) and too lean oil mixture.

Re: 6 volt voltage regulator
I have been working on a 1978 XT500 Yamaha for future vintage road racing. The lighting coil has two leads, one DC and one AC. I am assuming that coil was a more costly than a AC only coil found on Hodakas. Anyway, I believe it is a efficient way of power the lights and battery off of one unit. The ...

Re: True crankshaft Ace 100
Yes the brass hammer and also using a wedge or a C-clamp will get them in line, but sometimes it takes time. I just spend a lot of hours on a Yamaha SR500 crankshaft. I thought I was going to wear out the floor between the lathe and the work bench (where the adjustment were made). I pressed together...
