Re: Carb cleaning...a chemical carb dip or the Hornady Hot Tub?

If non-metallic parts are not included (neoprene/rubber etc.), lacquer thinner will and has cleaned many carburetors without problems.

Re: Question About Piston Snap Rings

Needle nose pliers... Some suggest shortening the 'tang' on the 'G' to reduce inertia action on them. Also, perhaps the open end should be on the top or bottom of the wrist pin opening.

Re: Control Shaft Spring Question

A related question. My toaster-tank Dirt Squirt shifts through 4th to a 'neutral' when hurried. Downshifting puts it in 4th and upshifting puts in 5th. Is this a spring problem or shifter wear or adjustment?

I've gone clear submerged in river crossings on long CC races several times and find the foam is easy to wring out as part of the 'get back in the race' procedure. Not sure how the K&N would fare....

Re: clutch question for the pros! and more!

Regarding exhaust pipe 'cookout'; I've had success with this method. 1) take out the spark arrestor 2) pour about a pint of gasoline in the pipe and roll it all around so that entire inside is soaked. 3) stand it up outside with the tail end up 4) lay the spark arrestor on the ground and pour gas ov...

I was waiting for someone to mention the old 'cellophane release' method which works quite well. To add an item of interest on timing, I knew an old Hodaka dealer who timed a bike at TDC, coasted it backward and released the clutch so the engine ran backward and he actually rode it backward. I tried...

Re: Carb Tuning

Wow, this post has brought out a lot of good information. I presume that the 'slide side' of the vanes, (both upstream and downstream in the airflow) have a curved edge to nearly reach the slide. Or do they just end away from the slide with a straight edge? :?:
