Re: Remote Condenser

I'm unsure of the advantage of mounting the condenser under the tank. Sure it keeps it cooler and makes it easier to change, but it exposes it to dirt and water and may reduce it's effectiveness (something that will require a bit of analysis) due to the added resistance and inductance of the longer ...

Re: 1974 dirt squirt 100cc

However, the "Digger Kit" is an iron cylinder intended for the earlier "Ace" 100cc engines, and it seems the original post is about an alloy cylinder Squirt engine for the Model 01 painted tank Dirt Squirt. The "Digger Kit" cylinder won't fit on the later engine. Ed I ...

Re: 1974 dirt squirt 100cc

I should also mention that Hodaka sold a "Dirt Squirt Digger" kit back in the day. This was basically an early model Super Rat top end for the Dirt Squirt. So if you can find a Super Rat top end, carburetor, intake boot and pipe you will be able to get some more power from your Squirt. Con...

Re: 1974 dirt squirt 100cc

The motor mounts are the same but as far as the motor goes, pretty much nothing is the same. Your best bet is to find an older model Wombat or Combat Wombat motor. With a new motor you will still need a 125 pipe.

Re: Rim width for 21" front 18" rear?

For new rims you need to be concerned about the angle the at which the holes are drilled. The angle is determined by the size of the hub and the lacing pattern. Finding stock rims will make things much easier.

Consult the Hodaka parts listings for stock rim sizes.

Re: Hodaka book

It is a great book, but the contents are not intended to help rebuild or restore a Hodaka. Instead, the book provides a history of Hodaka and how and when the various models were developed. There are historical pictures of the factory, PABATCO, and the bikes, with sections for each of the models. Th...

Re: forks for trials: Wombat

As Ed has already stated, the steel sliders are thin and they are not that heavy. I have also found that the springing is on the soft side which should make them decent for trials, but of course that all depends on the weight of the rider. There were lots of variations in the steel Hodaka forks over...

Re: Left Side Case Question

I have checked two Rat motors and neither had cases that would mate with the P or E series engines. The locating dowels were larger on the Rat motors I had. I am not sure if this applies to all of the 93 Rat motors or not.

Re: Re: Super Rat motor onto Dirt Squirt?

I'm going to disagree. I have dealt with that white powdery corrosion before and it was superficial. In this case you need to do a lot better job at cleaning it up, especially the braking surface. Use a wire wheel on a drill or steel wool (or both). One you have it good an clean post another picture...

Almost every one I have has a broken nylon insert. If it is not broken it almost always breaks when I try to get it apart. I have saved maybe 2 or 3.

Here are a couple of pictures to clarify. The first one is Paul's repro petcock. It has a rubber (or something similar) insert, embedded into the body and the lever has a cylinder with a hole that allows fuel to flow in the on position. 008.JPG The following picture shows the original design at the ...

Re: Exhaust Leak on Red Toad

Are you seeing smoke, pipe drool, or both? The exhaust flange has a gasket between it and the cylinder, but high temp RTV, as suggested my Mr squid should work. As you know, the pipe is a "sort of loose" slip fit held in place by springs, so it will always leak a bit. Once again, you can u...

I would say they are getting too much voltage. What bike is this? Is there a battery in the system? I think that the Toad regulator only regulates the headlight/tail light voltage and the rest of the electrics are "sort of regulated" by the battery.

Glad you got the package Clarence! I buy some hardware in bulk and ended up with a box of 50 motor mount bolts so I threw in a few as well as some other screws. I don't mind dents in the tank. The nice thing about the painted tanks is that a little body filler and some fresh paint make them look new...

Hi Clarence. Canada switched to metric back in the 70's and it was chaos for a while. Re: Oz Ace 100 - gear issue.

If the clutch nut has been over tightened it can "mushroom" the clutch pinion bushing, preventing it from spinning inside the clutch pinion gear. It might be something to check. In addition make sure that "clutch thrust washer outside" P/N 904015 is installed.
