Re: Newbie with questions ...

Excellent. Give me a day or three. Also, consider contacting Hodaka Dave directly. I traded him some manifolds and reed blocks awhile back. He might have just the one.

Re: Newbie with questions ...

I'll check my stash. Give me a week. Would you kindly Provide some dimensions. I have a mixed bag of reed valve parts I've saved over the years. Inner and outer bore dimensions and hole spacing should do. No promises but if I have one, its yours.

Re: Day One - New Project

Excellent 'captain. I couldn't trust my recollection of wave mechanics from my college physics class a zillion years ago. So if the pipe is a consistent diameter curves and bends don't matter, yes? Hey, great discussion. Thanks guys.

Re: Newbie with questions ...

The coveted front end would be off an 03 Wombat or ED-250. Rare ($$$$) but keep your ear to the ground and tell all your dirt bike buds to do the same. I know of both Honda and Yammie front ends being grafted onto a Hodie. If you have craftsman level frame building skills, there's even a blow by blo...

Re: Day One - New Project

Can't go wrong with that for your source material. Any time you'd like, just slide on a stock pipe, tune the carb and - presto - cool ride. I like that. Heck, you could even find a cool after market performance pipe and mod it to fit. Groovie.

Re: Combat Wombat Airbox

 Thanks Captain. And a bigger thank you for elucidating the role the features of the box/cover system play in improved air flow over the entire filter surface. Clever really.

PS- not to worry. The graunch scale is somewhat subjective. I really should be more scientific. 0.625 Reef.

Re: Day One - New Project

Maxie, could you illuminate the effects attributed to number and acuity of pipe bends before you get to the muffler (in your example) or the divergent cone in an expansion chamber. Thank you. Also, what was the final tune-ability of that epic header you were working with.

Re: Combat Wombat Airbox

Ed, how absolutely, critically important is that part in the grand scheme of things? If you grease up both ends of the filter well and tighten the wing nut up to 0.78 graunch?

Re: Newbie with questions ...

Cool project! Gusseted swing arm, sheet metal work on a still air box, hand rolled pipe. I'd say you have at most the correct number of tools. Depending on how sacked out the upper end is, and what kind of racing you'll be doing, that motor can be pretty perky in its stock piston port configuration ...

Re: #3 Hodaka Project

Thanks Maxie. I was thinking of the very back of the punched angle Maxie. It looked like you might have fabricated an extended tab directly over the top of and bent down toward the chain to help shed twigs and other debris. I've thought of fabricating something like that for a DS that gets a lot of ...

Warm fuzzies indeed. I love the engraving. When I think of iconic Hodaka photographs, HT wringing out a SR is the first that comes to mind. Nice Captain.

The only advice I have is just what works for me. There is no magic. At least twice a year, I just go nuts and burn a weekend on a massive cleaning frenzy. Part of the process is spent on inventory and organization. A "place for everything and everything in its place" approach is key. Don'...
