Re: 1973 Wombat 94a?

So by now, Poiu, you see what it's like to throw chum in the water on this site. Hodaka guys are notorious cheapskates. I know because I'm one of them. My guess is that you'll find someone to take your Wombat off your hands for $500-$600, and you've already given plenty of information on it's condit...

Re: SL175/03 Wombat mash-up

Since you guys are talking about modified 175s and 250s, I thought I'd mention in this context that I'll soon have up for sale a project bike that I'm going to let go. For years, I've held onto a SL175 that is mostly there, along with a SL250 engine that would be an easy rebuild. My intention was to...

Re: bent forks

For what it's worth: I have a pair of slightly bent Hodaka forks and I was thinking about finding a gunsmith if I couldn't locate a competent machine shop in my area. I watched a gunsmith straighten the barrel of one of my antique muskets some years ago, and I was really impressed. An antique musket...

Re: 76 ED 250

You're asking Hodaka guys what one of the most rare bikes in Hodakadom is worth? O.K, well, let me be the first to say that there's absolutely no demand for these old, broken-down parts heaps, and that the best thing would be to deliver it to the first one of us who would be willing to take it off y...

Re: Ebay prices

Getting back to Matt's post yesterday: very good thoughts. I wonder if it'd be worth the time to coordinate such efforts as yours across all of the vintage clubs? An across-club "promotional brigade" of sorts? I'm sure there are a few riders in every brand doing the same thing as you're do...

Re: Ebay prices

Well, probably a lot of us aren't inclined to reply because we, too, sell occasionally on fleabay, and would like to get as much for our parts as possible. I'll venture a reply, though. I guess my initial response is to just put our faith in the good ol' free market because of the power of "no....

Re: Removing 175 SL Wrist Pins

Thanks, gentlemen; all good suggestions. Ed, I feel better now that you say the cycling could take days. I'm not in a real rush to get the flywheel off, but it'd be nice if I could get it loose before June. The upcoming snow storm should help with the cold cycle... Mike and Rich: Ten-four on the bol...

Re: Removing 175 SL Wrist Pins

Thanks, guys. I think I wasn't clear, though (my bad). It's the circlips that are giving me trouble, not the wrist pin itself. There are three "blades" to each circlip. For the simple "ring" type, I just press a sharp pointed punch behind the circlip, and it just pops out. It doe...

Removing 175 SL Wrist Pins

Happy New Year to the Collective, and here's hoping that Santa brought you all the Hodaka goodies you wanted. For those of you with 175s, you're no doubt aware of the weird wrist pins that you encounter when changing out the piston. Well, that's where I am. How do I remove these wrist pins? will I n...

Re: Thank You Bruce!!!

Allow me to dog-pile on Gentleman Bruce, too. He and I worked a pretty good deal here in the woods of western Virginia, and we both (I think) came out at least somewhat happier for it. Yea, the deal took me into the far reaches of rural Virginia where I normally wouldn't go, but what an experience. ...

Re: Early Super Rat Rear Hub Question

Thanks, Clarence. I understand a bit more now in light of the dished rear sprocket that I know was used on the model 93. I'm still missing something, though--why doesn't the B+ also use the spacer? Isn't alignment between drive sprocket and rear sprocket still important enough to use the spacer on t...

Early Super Rat Rear Hub Question

I'm re-visiting the parts manuals for the M93, M93A, M93B and the B+ as I put together the final parts list for my M93A restoration. I noticed something that I'd not seen before, and am a bit puzzled by it. As all of you (or most of you ) probably know, the rear hub ("drive flange," #92928...

Re: New Hodaka owner.

Yea, it's way cool, and I wouldn't change a thing if I were you. It looks to me like a late Super Rat motor in a modified (lowered?) Ace 100 frame with swing arm. The pipe looks like a modified model 98 pipe too, particularly the elongated header pipe and forward cone. I'm just about certain that th...

Yes, I was thinking the same thing re: the 904009 screws. It seems like the phillips would be an improvement over the slotted heads.

Re: Different Length Clutch Screws

Yes, they are overall lengths. Also--all are, of course, flat-headed screws, but the 994009 and 954009 are phillips heads while the 904009 are slotted. And now, as I'm thinking of it, I might have some 904009s that are phillips-headed. I'm too tired ot look right now.

Re: Different Length Clutch Screws

I think I've found the answer to my question, and thanks guys for helping me along with it. In case anyone's interested, there are three lengths of Hodaka clutch screws. The shortest (994009)are those for the Road Toad, with only three friction discs and two plates. The next up are those used in the...

Re: Different Length Clutch Screws

Thanks for responding, Dirty Rat. I have only two of these screws. One size is about 34 mm long; these came from both an Ace 100 clutch and a Wombat clutch. The other size I have is about 37mm long; these came from a clutch labeled "Combat Wombat." There are two different part numbers for ...

Different Length Clutch Screws

I'm re-building a Combat Wombat clutch using some parts from my "clutch box." I'm noticing that there are at least two different lengths of clutch screws: a shorter set (Part # 904009) for the Ace 100, B, B+, early Rat, early Wombats and early Dirt Squirts, and (I THINK) a longer set (Part...

Well, I'm late to the party as usual. I think it was Dale who suggested some pics of the Jensen, so I dug up these. This is roughly the way I got it back in 2006.
