Re: Hodaka 250 Clutch (fiber) plate thickness

Hodaka fans are so fortunate to have folks that have invested so much time, effort and money to make parts available for our machines! Terry and Bev, Paul, Greg, Jamie, Bruce, Scott come to mind immediately. Thanks to all of them! Oh my, that recent stock of 250 friction plates I reported wasn't a ...

Looking to contact Marvin Foster for the Resonator Revisited

A 1969 Hodaka Gravel Rash calendar was recently passed along to me. I believe that it was meant for distribution to Hodaka dealers. It's large, dimensions are 24" x 18" an provides 365 days of quips, puns, jokes, and random silliness. Marv Foster would have been the creative and driving fo...

Re: Hodaka 250 Clutch (fiber) plate thickness

I don't know if this is correct, but I seem to remember someone saying that clutch plates from a Suzuki 250 (unknown which year or model) would work in the Hodaka clutch. If so, see what they recommend for use limits. ### It looks like Hodaka-Parts has clutch plates (the steel ones as well as the f...

Re: Hodaka 250 Clutch (fiber) plate thickness

Thanks for the feedback. My friction plates are very close to the factory thickness then. Overall the plate stack would be barely a mm shorter than new. Springs are 28.5 mm +/- Oil is Lucas 10w40 motorcycle oil. First time using this oil and the transmission shifts way better. Can even find neutral ...

Hodaka 250 Clutch (fiber) plate thickness

Clutch slipping on my 250SL so I deglazed the seven steel plate with 180 emery and a cross hatch pattern. This helped some but there's still slip in 5th gear. Does anybody know what the minimum thickness of the fiber plates should be? This could be hard to answer because I don't think there ever was...

Re: Ignition

Speaking of condensers I replaced one on my 94 wombat and it runs a lot better. is it me or would a new condenser make it run much smoother, it's under the tank now ..... My 94 Wombat used to intermittently run grossly underpowered when the condenser was starting to go out. Wouldn't pull more the 2...

I think Gregg Floren bought a Sprite Avenger from a seller on Vancouver Island (British Columbia) five or six years ago. I wonder how that project is progressing.

POR-15 sealer for moderately rusted tanks.

Caswell two-part tank sealer if the tank is like a sieve.

Re: Derust a tank with electrolysis

I tried electrolysis on my 94 Wombat tank and it works.

As a precaution, the process gives off explosive hydrogen gas. Next time I'll make sure I use tank electrolysis outside only (remember the Hindenburg).

Re: 03 Wombat spark issues

From the hard knocks I've had with both points and condensers I would say this may be points. While your points might look clean and fine I find that they still won't conduct without an aggressive resurfacing with 400 emery paper. Another points issue that stumped me for awhile is that one of the co...

Darrell, I occasionally drift off to sleep musing about what the heck could be causing your repeated contershaft spline failures. Still with no real brain-storms. Question: Are your rear hub cushions and your chain tensioner in good working order? Ed Thanks Ed, at least the problem seems to be putt...

Re: &#%@+ 250SL!

Sorry about the bad language in the subject line... There was a perfectly rational explanation for the clutch slipping after all: an extra .5mm clutch disc spacer. No voodoo involved as with the shearing countershafts (Albert, the wheel does turn without any undue resistance). Configuring the spacer...

&#%@+ 250SL!

Bah, I've just installed my third countershaft in a 250SL -- the splines have been shearing on the sprocket. The problem appears to be unique to me and my 250, but that's a digression. Anyway, on first ride the clutch is slipping now. Cable free play and actuation point seem to be in spec -- but it ...

Look at how many drill holes it took to balance this 250SL flywheel!

I suppose all the metal lost through corrosion since has thrown it back out of whack.

One brake on the rear wheel, but at least it was a drum and not a tire binder.

The defination of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. What are the odds that you got a defective heat treated main shaft, and by some odds got a second defective heat treated main shaft, when no one else seems to have?. I restored a SL250 this summer for ...

The bluish coloring looks like it may have been Induction Hardened. I do however believe that a 250 Counter Shaft can be found that wont wear out. Good point Clarence. I use the clutch, but I ride with other bikes at least 30 years newer. I guess some of the riders are a few years younger than me too. Well Darrell, I personally haven’t worked with a 250 yet. The lock washer was my first thought. I don’t see any torque listings for the CS nut. It looks, at first glance, at your photo, that the threads almost appear to be brass? Say it’s just discoloration in the photo, I really don’t know. With m...
