Re: HT 1 pipe
I got to take a quick spin on one of Steve Mitchel's racers several years ago. I know it had a Model 03 cylinder, and I think it had the HT-1 pipe on it. Pulled like a train with out needing to worry about keeping it revving, or fanning the clutch. Had to get a Physical Therapy appointment to get my...

PS: While ignoring the fact that the engine will have a harder time drawing air through the smaller the carburetor . . . so it will produce less peak HP.

Re: Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....
So, I decided to do a single search on "26mm" to see what would come up. Found this from April 3, 2022. "The stock 26mm carb from the Wombat (03) had "leaner" jets than what is listed for the CW 28mm carb partly because the air velocity going through the 26mm carb is higher ...

Yeah, I get that. I don't want to spend the time required to find the post you are thinking of either. But I would recommend that you "un-remember" the comment you have stored in memory because it is not helpful.

Re: Road Toad contact points setting puzzle .....
I think you must have misunderstood me. Cuz, I don't believe that . . . and I don't think I said that. There ARE some differences in the way the two carbs perform on Hodie 125's and the sorts of issuess they may present to owners doing tuning . . . but I don't think I said (or meant) what you have a...

I'm interested in seeing what it was that you are saying I said about 26mm carbs VS 28mm carbs.
I suspect there is a bit more nuance than what is being attributed.

Get the pilot jet dialed in FIRST (per procedures from the manual), then make it rich everywhere else and start working toward leaner settings.

Re: Combat Wombat Mystery
Cutting a 1.5 slide to make it a 2.0 or 2.5 is pretty easy. As mentioned, make a new mark at "X" distance above the highest point of the existing "cut-away". Then summon up all the old-world craftsmanship you can muster when using a large file to file away some material. Make sur...

PS: 2nd carb having the same symptoms suggests that a double check for a plugged exhaust might be worthwhile.

Re: Combat Wombat Mystery
You say that pilot jet changes have no effect. That MAY mean that the pilot circuit PASSAGES are somehow plugged (in which case, jet changes would have no effect because the passages are not letting any thing flow thru). Check with squirts of carb cleaner while watching for flow at the pilot fuel de...

PS: . . . though it might be useful to test the ignition coil mounted under the tank (only). Maybe. Possibly.

While I haven't used that technique (3V battery source attached to CDI) for testing . . . I have extreme doubts that it will be useful. A great method for point type ignitions . . . but probably useless on CDI.

Re: New Member - 1974 Super Rat (98) Ran for 30 min and then NO SPARK . . .
Model 98 with CDI (no points). To my knowledge, Hodaka/PABATCO never did publish component specs for the CDI. Sooooo . . . when checking/searching for spark . . . 1) Disconnect kill switch (in case it has a fault) 2) Replace spark plug 3) Check spark plug cap and plug wire for faults 4) Check spark ...

Re: Metallic sound
I'm afraid to attempt diagnosis by long distance with recorded video/audio. But I am sure of the following: If it were my bike, I wouldn't run the engine ANY more. It desperately needs to have the top end pulled off for inspection/diagnosis by an experienced vintage two-stroke mechanic/ tuner. Based...

My memory set the Combat Wombat (Model 95) weighed in at 208 pounds (dry). Not sure my phone "keyboard" can handle the numbers for a "wet" 250SL.

No reeds either? In which case, it was just a switch from a round passage intake manifold to a rectangular passage intake manifold which was capable of accepting the larger carb.
