I would recommend talking to who you bought the shaft from and get their thoughts.
If it were mine, I would shim it up from both sides until you get the play that you are looking for. At the same time making sure that the starter gear is engaging the transmission in an acceptable place.

Re: Combat Wombat Mystery
In the racing years we cut the slide ourselves. Just made it happen. ----- Clarence Right, but at $25 to $50 per slide, I can not bring myself to start grinding on one! I have come across a number of used slides that have been modified though. I'm always checking for that when I am selecting one to...

I do keep good notes but then have to remember to look at them!
My notes showed that I had also tested 2.0 and 1.0 slides. The 1.5 was the ticket.

Re: Combat Wombat Mystery
Well, I went back to my notes on my current carburetor settings. I have 2 Combat Wombats with OEM carbs and they both run the 2.5 slide. However, my track Combat Wombat, with the replacement carb setup, runs a richer 1.5 slide! In my notes, I was chasing an off idle lean condition as well. Hummm, I ...

Re: Combat Wombat Mystery
The B8HS plug is just fine for the Combat Wombat. Actually recommended by Harry Taylor.
You said the pipe was a flame thrower style. Is it the correct cross over pipe for a model 95?

Re: Timing Light or Buzz Box?
You have to manually set your dial indicator to 0 at TDC. Once set you can now verify where the points break using a lamp or buzzbox.

Re: Combat Wombat Mystery
Two new carburetors with the same result. You certainly have described checking and eliminating the right things. I run this same carb setup and it is great. Mine is actually set up a little leaner than how it is equipped but yours seems to already be too lean. Did your carbs come with new slides or...

Re: Timing Light or Buzz Box?
Great points Clarance (no pun intended)! I have always set my points on the retarded side rather than the advanced side. That said, I know that it is considered safe anywhere between .012 and .015. So, by setting to .012, I think it is important to check it routinely and keep the armature lubed. As ...

Re: Timing Light or Buzz Box?
I have used a buzzbox and a lamp. Found them to be a pain. This is what works for me. I use a dial indicator to verify both marks. Yes, some of them are off slightly from the factory. If you dont have a dial indicator you can use a clean piece of wooden dowel in the spark plug hole and visually dete...

Group, I found this 'Testing For No Spark' topic from 2019. https://hodakaforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3655&sid=3a1f7b6c67ffb2a686b95bfc5d803da6 It seems very useful and shows a 2 D-Cell battery device that you can use to help in the diagnosis. Plus I have two more questions using the Super Rat Wi...

Albert, Do you have a spacer that replaces the speedo drive or the actual speedo drive? If the latter, then I would completely disassemble it, clean it up and then pack it with waterproof grease.

For new options (not NOS) Cheng Shin C755 4.10-18 is a great choice. It is the narrowest 18in knobby that I have measured. I have not personally used these, but other possible options are: Dunlop K990 90/100-18 (Old pattern being remade with modern rubber) Dunlop MX33 90/100-18 (Slated to be availab...

94A also went to a 3.50x18 rear tire, where the 94 came with a 3.00x18. Not sure, but that might have been when they changed from 423 chain to 428?
