Re: Experimenting with new Wombat Pipe
Thank you for the guidance on this. I did some tuning today and got the pilot air screw dialed in but it looks like I will need either a richer needle or needle jet so that it going to slow this process down a bit. My wife and I are planning on driving down to Hodaka Days this year, and we look forw...

Experimenting with new Wombat Pipe
I built this pipe for my Wombat and test rode it for a few minutes last night prior to painting and adding the heat shield. The new pipe has a 1/8" bigger and 2-1/4" shorter head pipe as you can see in the picture below. The new pipe is also about 1/2" bigger in diameter in the center...

Re: Color
Thank you for your input. I think the mistake I made is I matched a faded red. I only have a few original red parts and they may have been sitting outdoors for many years. I'll get some redder red paint and put another coat on.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris

Re: Color
I am building up an Ace 100 engine in a model 94 chassis. Ace red is the choice for frame color. I took an old Ace headlight bucket to the local PPG auto paint store and matched up a color chip to the inside of the bucket. The red/orange polyurethane they mixed for me came out a little to orange. Lo...

Great! Thank you gentlemen. I will plan to use that pipe in a future Ace 100 project.

Old Expansion Chamber ID
Hello from the frozen North! Can you guys identify this pipe? I measured the exhaust nut and it looks like it will fit my Ace 100 engine. If so, it this a good pipe to run on an Ace 100? I know it will need internal cleaning and a silencer.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
MTrat - The Speedi-sleeves are an interference fit. The installation flange on the sleeve has a radius that aligns and guides the sleeve into position when it is tapped on. Installing the sleeve with the flange out sounds difficult. It seems like the sleeve would be hard to keep straight, and may di...

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
Dirty Rat - I had one speedi-sleeve on the magneto side of a 94 crankshaft that leaked air during the engine leak down test, resulting in test failure. I disassembled the engine and removed the speed-sleeve by using a splitter type bearing remover behind the left bearing. This pushed the speedi-slee...

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair
Hopefully this information will be useful to others. I have several model 94 crankshafts with Speedi-Sleeves installed. Hodaka Dave did the first one and I have installed a couple more. Recently installed a 99078 Speedi-Sleeve with #3 Permatex under it. IMG_2779.jpeg IMG_2781.jpeg This requires some...

Re: Corroded 94 Crankcase
Dirty Rat & Ed - Thank you for your guidance. I blended those little JB Weld spots flat with a long flat fine file, being very careful not to get into the surrounding metal. Then very lightly checked them with a stone. I don't think further lapping is necessary. Other than those pits I filled, t...

Re: Corroded 94 Crankcase
Gentlemen - Happy New Year and thanks for your input! I have been on the fence for about a year trying to decide whether to use this crankcase. The corrosion looks bad, but I can't really see where it will impact the serviceability of the case. All the bearing fits and other surfaces on the crankcas...

Corroded 94 Crankcase
This crankcase came from a model 94 that sat outside for many years. Other than the heavy pitting in the crankshaft area, the case is low time and in good condition. IMG_2900.jpeg After bead blasting I could see several pits at the vertical split line that were all the way across the mating surface....

Thanks for the recommendations Dale. I think I will replace all of the seals, and then put this engine in the Wombat chassis. Should be a fun project.

Re: Interesting Barn Find Engine
I looked at the data plate on the frame tonight and it is a 1972 Wombat frame, so this engine was not originally in that frame.

Re: Interesting Barn Find Engine
The engine number is E24648. I'm pretty sure the chassis is a 94 Wombat. Black frame w 18/21 wheels. When I am there tomorrow I'll confirm that with the data plate/frame number. When I bought the bike it was not complete. Basically a rough condition rolling frame with the engine about half bolted in...

Interesting Barn Find Engine
I recently bought several Hodaka restoration projects at an estate sale. One of them was a model 94 chassis with a 100 engine loosely bolted into the frame with nothing else hooked up. When I got it home I removed the engine from the frame and cleaned it up some. IMG_2669.jpeg The engine number star...

Re: New Member Restoring 2 Wombats
IMG_2535.jpeg Well I used the best parts from my two Wombats plus a bunch of parts from Terry to put together this one. It started right up after 40? years of non-use. Thanks to Ed for his jetting recommendations. The jetting was a bit rich, but in the ballpark on the first start. I have been adjus...

Re: Jetting Restored 94 Wombat
Ed Your recommendations are much appreciated. I have the Mikuni procedure, but still would have been all over the map without the info you provided. I will order some additional jets and a 2.0 slide. Their are no pipes available, so I tried to do the best I could with my original pipe. I will be jus...

Jetting Restored 94 Wombat
IMG_2491.jpeg After working on restoring this 94 Wombat all winter, I am not too far from being ready to start it up. I am interested in what you guys have to say about the initial jetting. It has a stock 03 top end, including cylinder, head, and reed valve assy. Since it has a 94 bottom end, I ins...

Re: New Member Restoring 2 Wombats
Looks good Victor. Thanks for the response. My Wombats were so corroded from sitting outside, I have had to bead blast and refinish just about every part. Most of the critical fits are okay though, such as steering head bearings, swingarm bushings, wheel bearing bores, and engine bearing bores. Cons...

Re: Zinc Plating Shop
All I did for prep was degrease them in the solvent tank. I could have bead blasted everything, but the shop told me they were going to send them out for tumbling & cleaning either way. We discussed the issue of added thickness to parts during re-plating, and they assured me it wouldn't be a pro...

Wombat Flame Thrower Pipe Repairs/Alterations
I have two of these flame thrower pipes for the Wombat I am restoring. IMG_2211.jpeg Both of them need to have the head pipes replaced due to rust. Re: New Member Restoring 2 Wombats
Making some progress bringing my first 94 Wombat back from the dead. Bead blasted most of the parts. The seat base was very corroded with some areas rusted through. This required pretty extensive weld repairs. Pulsed TIG was very useful welding the thin corroded steel. IMG_2161.jpeg Received my over...
