spoke question

In trying to lace a Wombat 94 wheel back to an original hub, I found out I had three bent and one broken spoke. I can find spokes for 03's, Super Combats, other Hodakas, but no 94's. Will other spokes work with the 94 wheel and hub?

tire confusion

I'm building another Hodaka trials bike from parts. My first bike is on a Wombat frame and is running an 80/100x21 front and a 120/100 rear with no problems. This new bike is a Wombat motor in an early Ace frame with a modified Dirt Squirt swing arm. I had a new 2.75X21 front tire so I ordered the s...

sprocket question

I'm putting a 72 Wombat motor in an early Ace frame. Which drive sprocket do I need; a flat one for an Ace or the recessed type for a Wombat?

trials modifications, my lucky tips

I'm modifying an Ace frame for trials riding at the lower vintage class levels. I wanted to modify the rake mildly, taking 2 1/2 degrees out of the neck. The backbone and the under tube were cut with the two down tubes left intact, then the neck shoved forward to where it read 2 1/2d less on my degr...

Re: trials flywheel weight

Bevman,,I get the wrenched wrist story. I'm typing this in a brace right now from pressing down so hard to get the taps started. Bullfrog, the first picture is interesting in that it looks simple, short of finding the proper bolt for the flywheel puller thread. The weight is about twice that of the ...

trials flywheel weight

I tried to find a weighted flywheel for my Wombat trials motor but was unable to locate one. A friend showed me his weight and I copied his on my 1936 vintage small lathe. I drilled out the four rivets on the points cam at 90, 180, 270, and 360d's for attachment with hardened screws. But when I trie...

A46**. Measuring the necks on the Ace frame and my 72 Wombat frame, they look the same.

Thanks. Frame is an early Ace 90. Will Wombat triple trees fit on this frame?

frame identification

I recently bought a Hodaka frame at a swap meet. I'm pretty sure it's off of an Ace or Rat, definitely not a Wombat. I need to buy parts for it, but there is no serial number on the frame as the i.d. tag is gone and there is no number stamped on the neck or support bracket. It has some of it's origi...

trials swing arm modifications

As I finalize the assembly on my Wombat to Trials bike resurrection, is there any value in putting another 1.5 or so inches in the swing arm? The frame is basically a stock 73 Wombat with a few modifications but none to the steering head. I can't see it taking me over a few minutes to do so effort i...

Fork oil for trials

Any recommendations for fork oil weight for trials riding? My forks are stock rebuilts but will be carrying a 225 lb. rider. This will be in the lower, less technical classes.

Re: forks for trials: Wombat

Thanks for the info. Stock forks it is. My weight will soften them up as I'm about 40 lbs. heavier than when I owned my original 73 Wombat. This bike is hardly going to be used at the Tony Bou level anyway.

Any recommendations on forks for trials? I've just rebuilt my stock forks but with the steel lowers, they are heavy.

Wombat for trials modification

I'm trying to set up a long dead Wombat for trials use at the lower skill levels. It appeared to me that the hole in from of the forward shock position could serve as a mounting point that lays down the shock more while raising the rear to reduce the trail. I turned down a couple of nuts and welded ...

Need some input on what the largest trials tire is that will fit safely inside a stock Wombat swing arm. Also advice on a good soft tire for trials use would be appreciated.

Wombat stator interchange

Upon removing the stator cover from my 73 Wombat, I found the flywheel/stator area caked with red clay. A small fracture in the case had allowed the slime to get all up inside the engine, no doubt causing the bike's demise 40 years ago. The stator plate, points, and surrounding areas are badly ruste...

Finally got my "back from the dead (leaves)" Wombat project home and into the shop Saturday. Amazingly simple, my son and I had it disassembled in two hours. Even more amazing, we did not strip or break the first fastener on a machine that has been lying in rotting leaves for over a decade...

Re: stator covers.

This isn't a trials bike yet. Right now it's an old throw away. A couple of hundred hours matched by a couple of thousand dollars from now it might be a trials bike. Interesting info about the reversed shift pattern. That's why you join sites like this.

stator covers.

Just curious. Gathering up parts for my "back from the dead (leaves)" project '73 Wombat trials bike, rescued from a raked up pile of leaves and brush in a backyard. The bike has an Ace 100 stator cover so I'm guessing many parts are interchangeable between the Ace and Wombat. What I'm not...

Forks: Stick a fork in them?

The forks on my Wombat rescue are pitted from years of being in a leaf pile. Yes, they'll clean up some, but I seriously doubt seals could pass over them without getting at least visible cuts in them. Will cleaning and chroming them help? (Expensive.) What about other forks, expensive but maybe not ...

Re: trials frame modification; Wombat

Can the rake be set by having the low engine cradle horizontal, then measuring the angle of the steering head?

I'm also having trouble navigating to the Resonator Revisited. Please excuse my computer illiteracy, but I could use a little help.

trials frame modification; Wombat

I have a 94A basket case project that I want to make into a trials bike. My brain is full, but I remember reading somewhere a recommendation to de-rake the forks 1.5 degrees. This isn't an issue for me, but I'm wondering if this is beneficial for a novice (older) trials rider like myself. Also, any ...

Re: parts interchangeability

The last two were ingenious solutions. My current plan of attack is to soak the engine in a rust remover such as Evapo-Rust or ATF/acetone. I've used the latter successfully for years but have recently had good luck on small parts with Evapo-Rust. Then I'll take the entire unit, and possibly the fra...

I haven't started on my new Wombat project yet, but I do know the engine is stuck. I've freed up a lot of seized old engines, working on one in the shop today in fact, but they've always been cast iron American V8's and the tools of choice have been cheater bars, hammers, and oxy/acetylene. I don't ...

[quote="racerclam"]Here is an example of what I have done for several guys with wombat trials bikes , I add a victory port exactly like in a combat wombat cylinder and use a combat wombat piston also , this is a huge plus for bottom end pull , I have done this for Jay Lael , as well as Leo...
