Re: Publishing Confusion

One of the very few things I disliked about racing the Combat Wombat was the close ratio difference between 4th & 5th. A bit 'longer legs' in cross country races would have been nice.

Re: Opinions on fuel tank coating?

I've used electrolysis, chemicals and agitation. I usually prefer mechanical shaking with pea gravel and water with frequent rinses, then vinegar to get out last rust. Rinse and quick drying followed immediately with gas/oil coating. Use tank liners only as a last resort.

Re: Run-away motor!

I once worked on a Kawasaki with rotary valve that someone else had put together. The oil injection feeds into the intake between carb and engine. The vent hose to the carb and the oil injection hoses had been crossed. The straight air into the intake downwind caused an ultra lean situation and the ...

Re: HELP! Piston ID

I recently bought a Dirt Squirt from Tom Rapp who got it from Jim Pomeroy at Hodaka Days lang ago. The bike has a Webco head with a Rat like compression profile. A standard Ace piston is used but two head gasket raised the head a bit. I assume this was to lower compression/clear the piston crown. An...

Re: Rat head/Ace piston

Because of the domed top of the Ace piston, it will hit the Rat head I believe. Clearance issue.

Rat head/Ace piston

I recently ran into a 100 with a Rat head over an Ace piston with two head gaskets to gain top end clearance. I assume the compression would be quite high and the Rat squish profile would be beneficial. This was on a bike owned by a prominent racer. Does anyone have any observations, theory or exper...

Doesn't the combustion chamber on that 90 racing head look more like an Ace than a Super Rat. How do they compare?

Re: Motorcycle Brands in the 1960's and 1970's

Early Kawasaki dealers sold a model SG250 Maguro which had 'Maguro' on the tank and no 'kawasaki' name anywhere. I put a few miles on one and it was a nice 250 four-stroke single road bike.

Models , 98, 99, 01, 02 and 03 also had reed valves. That would be orange tank Super Rats, Road Toads, late model Dirt Squirts and 03 Wombats as well as the Super Combat.

The high front fender suggests B+, though some B s had that. B+ had cushioned rear hub and resettable odometer. A nice, clean looking survivor for sure!

Re: Crankshaft Seal Surface Repair

I've never done this but couldn't you put the sleeve into the seal with the collar to the outside, apply Permatex, and put the sleeve & seal together over the shaft into the case with out disassembling the cases. Leave the collar attached.
