Re: Can't get my jug on

Most rings have a top side and a bottom side.. If you install the ring upside down, it will not sit in te ring groove properly... Just a thought

Re: Day One - New Project

Max... The cylinder is also growing (fact) The piston is also growing (including the distance between the pin and clip) The piston always distorts under load (and those added holes amplify the distortion) Even if the pin is growing under heat (which I am sure it is BUT.. see above) it will not cause...

Re: Day One - New Project

Kels thinks Max should look closer at the relationship of the carb with respect to the engine mount in HT's pic vs Max's.. Max's is clearly back at least 1-2" further.. Max's adapters are longer..

Re: Day One - New Project

Max... Kels thinks Ed has it right... Look in to what he suggests and you will solve your issues. Kels is surprised that the engine will even run a low speeds... Also if you are running a very thick reed petal, that will amplify the issues you are having.... The idea that the pin is expanding and di...

Re: Day One - New Project

Here's what I think is happening and I'm about 98% sure. The clips go in but with a contact fit against the pin. As the pin heats up it gets longer. Before it pushes the clip out of the groove it begins to distort the piston. The already minimum fit piston is pushed apart and the piston deforms at ...

My apologies!!

Kind of odd there are fairly recent videos of you racing several different bikes that you say you own..

Re: Wombat Dyno

I'm plenty relaxed... I do not think that you need a bike 4,000 miles away to verify your spread sheet calculator? I suspect you have plenty of bikes much closer that you can verify the accuracy of your spread sheet? correct?? So I will ask again.... What is it your are trying to determine? I am ask...

Re: Wombat Dyno

So, I am curious here... What exactly are you (thirdstone) trying to decide??

It APPEARS that you are trying to decide if Doug is lying about his speed achieved?

So I, politely ask.. What are you trying to determine?

If you plan on doing prolonged street running.. lots of higher RPM.... I would suggest 24:1 non synthetic oil..

ERA correct components can be improved upon

1955 Harley Davidson 125cc "Hummer" just shattered the existing World Record by 24 MPH . That is over 75% faster than the previous WR MPH. Using stock (era correct) components keeps the speed near the same as the current WR Speed. Altering the engine internals ONLY (since you can't change ...

Re: My 03 Wombat lives!!..well maybe soon.

For top end performance you generally will want a STIFFER petal NOT a lighter one like recommended earlier. Lighter petals are more prone to reed flutter.. For low/mid end performance a lighter reed petal is preferred.. This is why the Boyesen dual stage design works well. You get the best of both i...

Re: My 03 Wombat lives!!..well maybe soon.

I would attribute the richer low speed to reed pedal sensitivity. My carbon fiber reeds will allow a stronger signal to the carb which can pull more fuel in . They are more reactive having more tip area as well as light tension , and being lighter weight will be more effective at upper rpm with out...

Re: Relieving the exhaust port bridge - a 41 year old mystery SOLVED?

I may have a Toad cylinder around here somewhere . . . but doing the search for one and measuring it is well behind some other higher priority items on my plate right now (like seeing if I can stabilize the coil windings on the coil cores of my 40+ year old ignition system and return the scooter to...

Clarence... My engine was already at Hodaka days 2016.. Many rode it.. there are even several threads on it here. As for "perception" of "anything" I THINK you "perceive" what you want to perceive... and you like to try and find hidden meanings in my writings. Ya know I...

Re: Relieving the exhaust port bridge - a 41 year old mystery SOLVED?

Ed,

I think it would be interesting to have some measurements of the exhaust port (the entire port) on the Toad.. Then we can do some math and figure out if the bridge is really required.. any way you can get that info?

Again.. the bridge is only required IF the bore width exceeds the max percentage.. There are many engines that run bridged with no relief

If the answer to my Dairy Queen question is "Yes" - - - I think we've identified a part of the problem. I'm just thinkin' that folks usually wouldn't and shouldn't talk to each other in that manner when face-to-face. So there is no excuse for it by long-distance over the internet. And one...
